Meet Eunice, one of our HomeFirst patients and Isuru one of our Senior Physiotherapists.

After a fall down her stairs and an eight week stay in hospital, Eunice was very happy to be back home, but was also feeling quite nervous.

Our HomeFirst team supported Eunice with daily visits, helping her rebuild her confidence step by step. Isuru and the team also arranged for safety equipment to be installed, ensuring she could remain safe and independent at home.

Eunice said: “There’s nowhere better than your own home. The HomeFirst team are extremely caring people and gave me the confidence I needed to feel safe in my flat.”

Eunice’s story is a great example of the difference care at home can make.

Temperatures are set to rise this weekend. While enjoying the sunshine, remember to take steps to stay safe and well:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day
🧴 Apply sunscreen regularly (SPF 30+ recommended)
🕶️ Wear a hat and sunglasses when outdoors
🌳 Seek shade, especially between 11am and 3pm
👶 Keep babies, young children and older adults cool
🚫 Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle

After a serious infection left Marc facing a long recovery, specialist support from our Tissue Viability Nursing team has made all the difference.

“After everything that has happened, it’s been a huge relief to have this level of care close to home. The nurses have been amazing and I don’t like to think what would have happened to my leg if they hadn’t been here to help me. What they do is life-changing and, in many ways, lifesaving.”

Being cared for by experts has given Marc confidence and hope for his recovery.
This Legs Matter Week, we’re highlighting the importance of early treatment and the vital role of community nursing teams.

This week marks Carers Week which recognises the vital role unpaid carers play every day.

Within our Trust, many colleagues are carers themselves, balancing their professional roles with caring responsibilities at home.
Every day, our teams also work closely with patients supported by family members, friends and neighbours whose care makes a vital difference.

As we come to end of Volunteers’ Week we'd like to say a massive thank you to all 337 of our incredible volunteers. Over the past year they have given more than 33,000 hours of their time to help patients feel heard, supported and cared for.

This week, our senior management team have had an inspiring time visiting volunteers across the Trust to hear first-hand about the difference their compassion and generosity make to our patients and staff.

Today for Volunteers' Week we’re spotlighting Catherine and Sheila.

Catherine volunteers as a Ward Helper and really enjoys supporting the team and chatting with the patients: “The staff are friendly & welcoming. It's lovely chatting with patients who have led interesting lives.”

Sheila supports our pharmacy team by speaking with patients and arranging appointments, bringing reassurance and being a friendly voice. Sheila says: “Many of the patients are just pleased to hear a friendly voice and someone to have a conversation with. I feel that I have the time to listen to the patients if they wish to talk which, as a volunteer is quite rewarding."

Their work has made a huge difference to both patients and staff. Thank you Catherine and Sheila! 👏 👏 👏

We’re continuing our Volunteer Week celebrations with our Ward Helper Pat, pictured here with staff member Kathy.

Pat joined our volunteer team after the loss of her husband, wanting to use her experience to support others going through difficult times. Pat said: “Volunteering gives me pleasure and a sense of happiness. I come away from every shift feeling like I'm making a difference.”

Through volunteering, Pat has not only supported patients but also built lasting friendships. A chance connection with another volunteer even led to an unforgettable trip abroad and a lifelong friendship: “I absolutely love volunteering and would encourage anyone thinking about it to give it a try. It's been one of the best things I've done.”

A huge thank you to Pat and all our volunteers. 👏👏👏

It’s National Volunteer Week and we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who support our staff and patients every day across the Trust.

From offering a listening ear to sharing lived experience, their impact is felt in so many ways.

Meet Clare, our longest-standing volunteer. She has been volunteering with us for almost 25 years in numerous roles including welcoming visitors and helping prepare home boxes for discharge. Clare says “I would recommend volunteering to anyone… I really enjoy it.”
