You know your age, do you ?

More than four in ten UK adults (43%) don’t know their current blood pressure reading, and almost a third (31%) don’t check it regularly. Most people understand the risks in theory. 84% know high blood pressure can lead to heart attacks and 79% link it to strokes. But action is lagging behind, and confusion is part of the problem. Nearly half (49%) mistakenly believe high blood pressure comes with clear symptoms, when very often there are no symptoms at all until something serious happens.

The Prevention and Assessment Team will be offering free blood pressure checks and pulse checks on the following days...

Happy National Dog Day!

Today, we're celebrating some very special members of our teams, our amazing volunteers and their Pets As Therapy (PAT) dogs.

Whether they're offering comfort during a difficult day, helping someone feel more relaxed before an appointment, or simply bringing a smile to patients, service users, visitors and staff, these wonderful dogs make a real difference wherever they go.

The calming presence of a therapy dog can help reduce anxiety, encourage conversation and provide moments of connection when they're needed most. Alongside their dedicated volunteer handlers, our PAT dogs bring kindness, companionship and joy to people across our services.

A huge thank you to all our therapy dogs for the care, comfort and wagging tails they share throughout the year. 💙

We are proud to have Lucy as part of our team!

🦷 Helping people stay well starts early

Lucy is a Special Care Dental Nurse and Oral Health Educator at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust who helps children build healthy habits through supervised toothbrushing programmes and specialist dental care for those who need extra support.

Her work spans community oral health promotion, Special Care Dentistry and supporting speech and swallowing difficulties. She also manages an out-of-hours Emergency Dental Service, helping ensure people can access urgent care when they need it.

By reaching people early, tackling inequalities and connecting them with the right support, Lucy is helping to prevent avoidable illness and improve health outcomes for local communities.

She says: “It has been incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact this work is having on families and communities, helping to build healthier habits from an early age.”

A great example of prevention in action – and of the people working every day to make a difference.
