Trade policy and changes in trade policy be they bilateral, regional, or multilateral through the World Trade Organisation are a key policy priority of almost all governments There are currently over 400 trade agreements between countries and groups of countries notified to the WTO, and another 150-200 in the process of being negotiated. Policy makers, analysts, academics, international organisati
ons and journalists need appropriate tools for analysing such changes in trade policy. Economists have sophisticated tools (computable general equilibrium modelling, econometrics) for analysing the potential impact of such agreements, but these tools are typically expensive, require highly skilled people to undertake the analysis, work at a fairly aggregate level, and often make very heroic assumptions of the underlying data. They are often unaffordable in cash terms and require very highly expert 'intelligent customers' who are often in even shorter supply than cash particularly but not only in developing countries. TradeSift has been developed by InterAnalysis, based at the University of Sussex, UK. We are international trade policy specialists and collectively we have over 100 years of experience in trade policy analysis. We have written numerous reports for governments and international organisations and the European Commission on trade issues. We interact widely with the policy making environment, and have extensive experience in trade policy training in the UK, Africa and Asia. TradeSift can be applied to any analysis of international trade, it enables you to do rapid analysis without modelling and without expensive and sophisticated techniques. With TradeSift your work of calculation and presentation will be much easier.
