The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Theresa Fowler, is helping with the preparations for this year's Poppy Appeal

Last week, the Mayor was delighted to welcome Andy Brown, Poppy Appeal Manager for East Sussex, and Simon Watson, Poppy Appeal Volunteer Coordinator for Brighton and Peacehaven with the Royal British Legion, to the Mayor’s Parlour to discuss plans for this year’s Poppy Appeal. They were joined by Amber the dog, a regular at Poppy Appeal events across the county!

It was a wonderful opportunity to hear about the vital work of the Poppy Appeal, which raises essential funds to support veterans, serving personnel and their families. The Mayor also discussed how she will be supporting this year’s appeal as well as leading the city’s Remembrance commemorations.

From 22 October, poppy collectors will be out across Brighton & Hove, with poppy displays appearing in businesses, venues and community spaces throughout the city. The Mayor was pleased to recognise the tremendous dedication of the volunteers, veterans, Armed Forces personnel and cadets, whose commitment and hard work help make the Poppy Appeal such a success across Brighton & Hove each year. Their efforts not only raise vital funds for the Armed Forces community but also ensure that the city continues to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed.

We’re delighted to announce that, after almost a century of travelling side by side, the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra has officially become the Resident Orchestra at Brighton Dome.

Founded in 1925, the orchestra first performed on our Concert Hall stage in 1928. Since then, across generations, it has become a familiar and much-loved part of our musical life. Here’s to the music we’ve shared, the memories we’ve made and the many more still to come.

Update: This afternoon Brighton and Hove Council voted to reinstate the dog free area in Blakers Park. Congratulations to all who campaigned to make this happen.

The consultation is now live to keep Blakers Park fenced area dog free. Please fill in the consultation on Your Voice in the link below.

Blakers Park was dog free from the 1970s when residents got together and asked the Council for a fence to keep children safe and away from dog 💩. Last year residents have again got together to submit a petition to Council asking for the area to remain dog free after it got missed off the PSPO list.
