π Alzheimerβs Month: Love and Care Continue π
This Alzheimerβs Month, weβre proud to share our second case study, featuring Julian and Lynette, a couple whose 39-year marriage has continued through Lynetteβs Alzheimerβs diagnosis and her move into Brunelcare's Deerhurst Care Home.
Julian and Lynette first met in 1984 while working together. They married in 1987 and, over almost four decades together, built a life filled with family, holidays, meals out, cinema trips and even three years living in Stockholm, Sweden. β€οΈ
When Julian began noticing changes in Lynette in 2018, everyday tasks and memories were becoming increasingly difficult. Following years of appointments and uncertainty, Lynette was eventually diagnosed with Alzheimerβs.
As her dementia progressed, Julian reduced his working hours before becoming her full-time carer for several years. When caring at home became increasingly challenging, they began exploring options that would provide Lynette with the support she needed.
Having heard about Brunelcareβs Deerhurst Care Home through a friend, Julian visited the home before bringing Lynette along for day visits. Lynette moved into Deerhurst in May 2025, aged just 63 and is thriving thanks to the care she receives.
Today, Julian continues to visit Lynette every single day. He says seeing her happy, cared for and looking so well has given him reassurance during an incredibly difficult time.
Their story is a powerful reminder that while Alzheimerβs and dementia can change lives in ways families never expect, love, connection and care continue.
This Alzheimerβs Month, weβre sharing stories like Julian and Lynetteβs to shine a light on the realities families face, and the difference compassionate, person-centred care can make. π
