Co-operators in Bristol and beyond are saddened to hear that Doug Naysmith died yesterday. Doug was a dedicated Co-operator who served us well as Labour & Co-operative MP for Bristol North West, Labour & Co-operative Councillor for Avonmouth, Labour & Co-operative Councillor for Hillfields, Co-operative Party NEC member, Chair of the Bristol Co-operative Party Council, member of the Regional Committee of CRS and in many other roles. He encouraged many people to be involved in the Co-operative Movement and Bristol Co-operators can be proud that we elected such a principled Co-operator to parliament.

The Labour candidates for Emersons Green in the May local elections are: Katrina Al-Hassan, Sadik Al-Hassan and Ron Hardie.

Having both lived in Emersons Green for over eight years, Katrina and Sadik care about what happens in their area and that is why they are standing for election in May.
Ron Hardie joins the campaign with a wealth of experience as the third candidate, having served as a parish councillor for four terms and a trustee of local groups.
“We have seen the consequences in our local area on services, on schools and our environment from Tory rule” says Katrina “We both decided to stand to try and make a difference for Emersons Green and Lyde Green, to fight for improvements in service provision in the area and deliver the area that so many developers have promised”.
Award winning local pharmacist Sadik says “As part of the NHS working as a pharmacist in the area I have seen first hand the impact of Tory cuts on our community, especially as our area grows putting pressure on the already stretched services”.
Sadik served as Deputy Mayor for 3 years on Emersons Green Town Council and has been a local councillor for over five years. Sadik has spent his 5 years on the town council supporting work to help prevent antisocial behaviour, funding new Police electric bikes, promoting funding for youth services, voting in favour of greater support for residents who need financial advice with our crisis in bills and improving our green spaces. He is deeply concerned about the provision of services as our local pharmacies close due to funding cuts and those existing pharmacies cut back on the help they can offer.
Katrina worked in pharmacy and as a mother of two boys who go to a local school she has always had a strong interest in Emersons Green. Katrina volunteers at an animal rescue in the area and is active on local social media groups offering advice as well as helping to catch the odd escaped pet.

Proposed new measures in the Illegal Migration Bill will put vulnerable people at even greater risk by removing the protections offered by life-changing support. Take action now to ensure victims get the support they need and ...
