Bristol Hospitality Network (BHN)

Bristol Hospitality Network (BHN) We stand in solidarity with people seeking asylum and facing destitution in Bristol. Without an income, these individuals can't find accommodation.

We support people seeking asylum through our weekly Welcome Centre drop-in, and by finding accommodation for those who have been refused asylum. BHN works alongside asylum seekers facing destitution by sourcing hosted accommodation and creative community engagement across the city. We estimate there are 100 destitute asylum seekers living in Bristol, caught in the loopholes of the system - unable

to work and unable to claim benefits. We provide full board accommodation for our members in host households and in our men's hostel in Bristol, as well as opportunities in community volunteering and as part of our social enterprise, Moveable Feast. We run a drop-in session and provide a hot meal every Monday at our Welcome Centre, offer legal advice and support, run ESOL classes, and host events. We also feel itโ€™s important to celebrate when there are joys to be acknowledged and we enjoy some wonderful dinners and parties - often a melting pot of cultures! Look out for upcoming events via our Facebook. For more information about Bristol Hospitality Network, please visit http://www.bhn.org.uk.

Bristol Refugee Festival!! (Part 1)

Very late to posting about this but we were overjoyed to be part of Bristol Refugee Festival again this year and couldn't not share the pictures. We were lucky enough to have not 1, but 3 stalls at Celebrating Sanctuary on College Green so expect more to come ๐Ÿ˜‰

First up: our information stall! Huge shout out to our Trustees Jess and Colin and volunteer Annie for baring the heat to chat to everyone about what BHN does. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by our stall. Jess and Qerim even got some time with the Lord Mayor & Green Party Councillor Yassin Mohamud ๐Ÿฉต

๐Ÿ  โ˜€๏ธ Summer evenings at the BHN house โ˜€๏ธ ๐Ÿ

Every Tuesday our house guests, staff and volunteers get together for an evening meal. Everyone especially enjoys the nights when we can utilise the garden! On this last particular Tuesday, our lovely volunteer brought a couple of guitars and music naturally ensued. Swipe for a snapshot of the food that went along with it ๐Ÿ˜‹

BHN finds housing for asylum seekers experiencing destitution. Our hosted members either stay in our accommodation house, in partnership lodgings or in the homes of generous local residents.

If you have a room to spare and would like to put it to good use, email Laura at [email protected] ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Can we tell you a secret?

We have the BEST volunteers in Bristol (we reckon anyhow ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Last month, our Volunteer Coordinator successfully applied for a Bristol Community Festival grant so we could throw an extra special volunteer celebration ๐ŸŽ‰

The day started with a foraging workshop exploring the wild foods and local Bristol plants in Trinity Centre's beautiful garden. This was followed by a spread of pitta sandwiches, snacks and dessert courtesy of our fabulous Moveable Feast team.

We even got a few rounds of dancing detectives and duck duck goose in before the rain came for us ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿฆ†

Thank you so much to our incredible volunteers for everything that you do. Our Welcome Centre, Moveable Feast events, Advice team, and accommodation house literally could not run without you all. You bring the absolute best energy to everything and we are so grateful for you โค๏ธ

Thank you to the gorgeous Trinity Centre for hosting us for the afternoon, and to Anna for running a fabulous workshopโ˜€๏ธ

โœจ More from one million acts of hope! โœจ

A couple of weeks ago we took part in the Bristol Noise 1 Million Acts of Hope campaign, celebrating all of the wonderful people doing wonderful things across the country. It was an honour to be part of such a special week.

As part of our involvement, we hosted a screening of the Peoples Emergency Briefing, an honest yet uplifting analysis of the climate crisis in the UK, as told by experts in the field. While some of the content was stark, the hope came from 70 dedicated local community members who came along to watch and hold a reflective discussion afterwards.

Also included in the evening was a talk by our Advice Manager Elinor Harris, on the way the global climate crisis is already having an affect on migration.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the film screening (and being patient with the sound issues!). Thank you to our volunteers and chefs who set everything up and cooked some delicious Sri Lankan nibbles ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณ

PLEASE SIGN the petition to make this film a UK-wide national briefing, here:
