Raising Residents' Concerns Over the Waste Collection Chaos🚛

Today, Leader of the South Gloucestershire Conservative Group, Cllr Liz Brennan has written to the Leaders of the Lib Dem-Labour Administration, who run South Gloucestershire Council, regarding the waste collection chaos across South Gloucestershire.

👉Conservative Councillors have received persistent complaints from residents about missed bin collections, delayed pick-ups, and failures across recycling, food waste, and hygiene waste services.

👉These failures have raised serious public health concerns and damaged public confidence in the Council's ability to deliver a basic service that residents pay for through their council tax.

👉At a time when strong leadership is seriously needed, there is currently no Cabinet Member responsible for this service area due to the administration’s internal political problems.

Green bin charges have gone up and residents have been ignored

Conservatives and local residents repeatedly expressed strong feelings about bin cuts and rising charges , but the Labour / Lib Dem administration has simply not listened.

In 2023, green bin charges were £30 under Conservative leadership

Here’s what residents are now facing:
🟢 2024: £60 – doubled under Labour / Lib Dem control
🟢 2026: £75 – another increase planned

That’s a 150% rise in just a few years, hitting households already struggling with the cost of living.

From this Friday, the Lib Dem-Labour coalition will impose 3-weekly black bin collections across South Gloucestershire .

We share residents' concerns of the possible impacts that could follow.

👉More waste sitting outside homes for longer, increasing odours, vermin, and public health concerns

👉Increased fly-tipping and excess waste on pavements, in alleyways, and in green spaces

👉Residents being asked to pay more for less

South Gloucestershire Conservatives have consistently voted against the introduction of 3-weekly black bin collections, but unfortunately the Lib Dems and Labour have forced this through.
