WECIL (West of England Centre for Inclusive Living) WECIL is a charity run by and for disabled people. We support over 4,000 people in Bristol & the surrounding area every year.

WECIL is a disabled people's user-led organisation (DPULO). We run a range of services which can support disabled people through different areas or at different times of their lives. Services include:

* A peer-support project
* Young people's services
* A volunteer programme
* Direct Payments support

* Employment support for individuals and businesses

Having more control over your support can make a real difference to everyday life.

A Direct Payment is funding from your local authority that provides choice and control over how Disabled people receive support in their own home or in the community.

We offer specialist advice and support to both adults and families with Disabled children that receive a Direct Payment from their local authority or healthcare funding from the NHS.

WECIL can give you the tools and advice you need to be able to make independent choices and receive the care and support you want. Whether you’re new to Direct Payments or need employment advice and support, we can help you with what you need.

No two days are ever quite the same as an Independent Living Payments Advisor, and that's one of the things that makes the role so rewarding.

WECIL is currently recruiting an Independent Living Payments Advisor to join the team. A typical day can involve anything from reviewing budgets and support hours to speaking with local authorities, payroll providers or insurance companies to help resolve issues relating to a person's Direct Payment.

Much of the role is about bringing people together, solving problems and ensuring individuals feel supported every step of the way.

£30,415-£34,412 | 37.5 hours | Permanent | Home and Fishponds office, with some home visits

WECIL is looking for a Sessional Support Worker to join our Bath and North East Somerset's Short Breaks team, providing 1:1 or 2:1 support for Disabled children and young people.

£13.45 per hour plus 12.07% annual leave entitlement | £15.07 per hour overall | Sessional | Evenings and weekends | Bath and North East Somerset

You will support children and young people to access a variety of activities, promoting independence, learning and inclusion while working with families to ensure activities are accessible and reflect each child or young person's interests.

We have support sessions in Bath, Saltford, Keynsham, Radstock and the surrounding North East Somerset areas.

Join us for a Community Gathering to discuss Hate Crime, Discrimination and Belonging!

WECIL is hosting a free and supportive gathering to increase trust, confidence and facilitate strategies for change. This will be a safe and welcoming space to discuss experiences of Hate Crime, as well as the key challenges and barriers relating to research and reporting.

Monday 7 September 2026 | 11:30am–2pm | The Vassall Centre, Fishponds, Bristol | Free to attend

The event will bring together Disabled people with lived experience, disability rights organisations and support groups, researchers and academics.

The aim is to hear and amplify the voices of Disabled people with lived experience, connect with others, and work together to plan and advocate for systemic change.

The Vassall Centre is fully accessible, with dedicated Disabled parking, accessible toilets including a Changing Places toilet with hoist, and hearing loops throughout.

Tea, coffee and a free lunch will be provided, and anyone who attends will receive a £10 voucher. Limited support with transport and travel costs is also available and must be preauthorised.

We're looking for someone who is motivated and passionate, with excellent business administration skills and a strong desire to make a difference to people's lives. Experience working in Social Care is an advantage, but not essential.

WECIL announced as Climate & Disability programme partner! 🌍 Disabled people are one of the groups that will be hurt most by climate change and the loss of nature, but they have historically been left out of action and planning.

This has not only led to climate work making new barriers for Disabled people but has meant the climate movement has missed out on the expertise and ideas that Disabled people can bring.

Starting in October 2026, WECIL will work with Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership to deliver the next phase of the Climate & Disability programme, creating focused opportunities for Disabled people across the West of England to help shape community-led climate and nature action.

Broadmead bus changes! We are sharing an important update from Bristol City Council ahead of significant changes to Bristol’s bus services this Sunday.

What is happening?

On 30 August, 26 separate bus services passing through Broadmead will change, with many routes changing in both directions. This is part of a wider project to remove most traffic from Union Street, Horsefair and Penn Street in preparation for thousands of new homes, new shops and leisure facilities in the area.

What is Bristol City Council doing to prepare for these changes?

You may have seen this story in the news or posters on bus stops and streets across the city. From 25 August, teams of travel advisors will be on the streets giving out free bus tickets and helping passengers find their buses. This will run through the day, every day, until 12 September.

Have your say on proposed changes to pay discrimination protections. The UK Government has launched a consultation on Equal Pay and Pay Discrimination, including proposals affecting Disabled people.

The consultation is seeking views on how gaps and inconsistencies in the current framework affecting Disabled people could be addressed, alongside wider reforms intended to prevent pay discrimination and make disputes easier to resolve.

Disabled people, Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPOs) and others interested in or affected by these issues can respond to the consultation.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
