Dog owner ordered to pay £822 for breaching Public Space Protection Order.

A Downend man was ordered to pay £822 after pleading guilty to failing to clean up after his dog. Following reports of repeated dog fouling outside shops on Cleeve Wood Road, enforcement action was taken to help keep public spaces cleaner and safer for residents, businesses and the wider community.

♻️⚠️ Missed Waste, Recycling and Nappy Collections in Frenchay and Downend

Unfortunately, I have received more reports from residents who are still experiencing missed waste, recycling and nappy collections.

If you are affected and feel comfortable doing so, please comment below with your street or road name. I will compile a list and report it directly to the council.

As your councillor, I have repeatedly raised and challenged the ongoing waste collection and reporting problems with the council and the administration, and I will continue to do so. Residents rightly expect and deserve a reliable waste collection service.

You can also report a missed collection using the link below 👇

⚠️ Important update from South Gloucestershire Council on the A4174 Ring Road

A reminder that that will be a number of overnight closures and daytime lane restrictions on the ring road over the coming weeks. Please be aware of the planned works and allow extra time for your journey where possible.

Full details from SGC below 👇

The southbound carriageway on the A4174 ring road between Dramway and Carson's Road roundabouts will be closed overnight for essential reconstruction and resurfacing works starting from Monday 27 July.

The work is scheduled to take place Monday to Friday nights 8pm to 6am until 21 August and will reopen during the day.

The diversion will be A4174 (part unaffected), B4465, A46, A420, A4174 (part unaffected). We are sorry for any inconvenience caused while these essential works are taking place.

We will also be starting our annual A4174 ring road clean up programme on 27 July which will mean partial closures (off peak 9.30am until 3.30pm) and will start at Hicks Gate moving round in stages to Filton until Wednesday 26 August.

There will be lane closures on sections of both sides of the carriageway which will cause disruption, and StreetCare apologises for this. However the closures are the only way to keep our clean-up and cutting teams safe.

Such wonderful news that Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) will now be added to England's newborn screening programme.

Back in 2007, Cystic Fibrosis was added to the newborn blood spot screening test, transforming outcomes by ensuring babies could be diagnosed early and receive the right care, treatment and support from the very beginning.

When my daughter was born in 2015, her Cystic Fibrosis was identified through newborn screening. It was a huge shock and an incredibly challenging time for our family, but that early diagnosis meant she could access specialist care and treatment straight away. Early intervention makes a real difference.

I'm so pleased that babies born with SMA will now have the same opportunity. Identifying SMA before symptoms develop means babies can begin treatment as early as possible to have the best possible outcomes.

A huge congratulations to Jesy Nelson and every single campaigner who has worked tirelessly to make this happen. Your determination has achieved something truly remarkable and will change the lives of countless children and families for years to come. 💙

Newborn screening for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) will be rolled out across England, helping babies access earlier diagnosis and treatment.

📮 Update on Downend Post Office & Banking Hub

I wanted to update residents on the work taking place to help protect services on our high street.

I have again submitted an application to the LINK Access to Cash Scheme to request a banking hub for Downend.

This builds on the Council motion I put forward earlier this year calling for greater support for our local high streets and improved access to banking services.

With the closure of the Downend Post Office on 13 August 2026, it is more important than ever that we do everything we can to retain access to essential banking and cash services locally.

I will continue pressing for both a replacement Post Office and improved banking services for our community.

If you haven't already, I'd be grateful if you could complete my short High Street and Post Office survey. Every response helps.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share their views and support this campaign. I will keep residents updated as soon as I have any further news.
