That’s a wrap on Ex Wyvern Lynx Alpen Klau in Bavaria 🇩🇪

An outstanding week for 39 Signal Regiment — the entire group achieved their Rock Climbing Foundation qualification, took part in a cultural visit, completed a summer mountaineering day, and tackled a full day on the Klettersteig.

Challenge, resilience, teamwork, and adventure from start to finish. ⛰️🧗‍♂️

39 Signal Regiment wrapping up an outstanding Rock Climbing Foundation Course 🧗‍♂️

Day 4 saw the team stepping up to outdoor lead climbing on longer routes, alongside multi-pitch practice in demanding conditions. Day 5 pushed things even further with lead climbs on longer walls before finishing the course indoors to round off a solid week of progression, confidence building, and teamwork.

A huge effort from everyone involved — developing skills, resilience, and trust on the wall and beyond. 👏

Day 2 & 3 of the Rock Climbing Foundation Course 🧗‍♂️

From our first outdoor climbs to stepping up onto bigger walls, the last two days pushed everyone out of their comfort zones and onto the rock. Day 2 focused on lead climbing skills, working with safety ropes, and building confidence on real routes — with several successful lead climbs completed by the team.

Day 3 raised the stakes with longer climbs on a larger wall, where every climber completed an unprotected lead climb before finishing the day with an abseil back to the ground.

Strong effort, teamwork, and plenty of determination shown throughout by all involved.

Day 1 | Rock Climbing Foundation 🧗‍♂️

Today, our Reservists from 39 Signal Regiment took on the fundamentals of climbing at Inform Park.

The day started with movement drills and learning how to find and control their centre of mass on the bouldering wall, before progressing onto bottom-rope climbing techniques. By the end of the session, the team were confidently exploring lead climbing — with everyone stepping up to give it a go.

The group brought a wide range of experience levels, from complete beginners to climbers who had already completed previous courses, creating a great environment for learning, teamwork, and pushing personal limits.

A strong first day with plenty more to come. Stay tuned over the next four days to see what the team gets up to on the course.

🌟 Honouring Dedication Behind the Scenes 🌟

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Kim, 39 Signal Regiment’s Financial Systems Administrator, who was invited to attend HRH The King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 8 May.

This prestigious invitation recognises the tireless work Kim carries out behind the scenes, ensuring the Regiment runs smoothly day in, day out. Her professionalism, commitment, and attention to detail make a real difference, often away from the spotlight.

Opportunities like this are a testament to the vital role our people play, both on operations and in support.

👏 Congratulations, Kim—thoroughly deserved recognition!

Behind the scenes, reserve units are the unsung heroes that bring the Ten Tors Challenge to life.

6th Battalion The Rifles (6 RIFLES) manages Okehampton Camp with precision.

165 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC ensures smooth traffic for 5,000 vehicles.

Reservists like the The Royal Wessex Yeomanry oversee logistics, keeping safety a top priority for 2,400 youths on the moor.

The Royal Wessex Yeomanry also supports participants needing assistance back to base.

Additionally, Reservists staff checkpoints providing medical aid and coordination when needed.

The Jubilee Challenge is special as it empowers youngsters with additional needs:

Exeter University Officers' Training Corps cadets and Bristol University Officer Training Corps es**rt participants across challenging terrain while carrying gear so everyone finishes strong!
