☀️ Tips to stay cool during the hot weather ☀️

With high temperatures today and tomorrow, it's important to take care of yourself, your family and your home. Here are some simple tips to help you stay safe and comfortable during the hot weather:

🏠 Keep your home cool • Close curtains, blinds and windows on sunny sides of your home during the day. • Open windows in the evening and overnight when temperatures drop.

💧 Stay hydrated • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. • Try to limit alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks, which can contribute to dehydration.

👕 Dress for the weather • Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made from breathable fabrics such as cotton. • Use sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat when outdoors.

🌳 Avoid the hottest part of the day • Stay in the shade where possible. • Limit strenuous activity between 11am and 3pm when temperatures and UV levels are highest.

🤝 Look out for others • Check in on older neighbours, relatives and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat. • Make sure children, vulnerable adults and pets have access to cool spaces and plenty of fluids.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion • Symptoms can include dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, nausea and feeling weak. Move to a cool place, drink water and seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or do not improve.
