What a day at Party in Ponds! So glad I could pop down earlier with my younger brother and soak up some of the incredible atmosphere and sunshine.

It's genuinely brilliant to see the Fishponds community come together like this, thousands of people enjoying great music, amazing food and stalls and everything that makes our corner of Bristol so special.

A huge thank you to the organisers, vendors, artists, litter pickers and all the volunteers who make this happen every single year. Entirely for free and entirely out of love for the community. 10 years of Party in the Ponds is a real achievement and you should all be incredibly proud.

Here's to many more! πŸ’š

βš“THE PIRATE SHIP HAS LANDED!βš“

Ahoy Frome Vale! πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈThe legendary Pirate Ship is BACK at Oldbury Court Park and she's looking better than ever. This isn't just any old vessel but a ship Blackbeard himself would be proud to sail!

A treasure chest full of thanks goes out to everyone who fed their ideas into the design and planning process, your input really shaped something special. Huge credit to the architects, the council officers and the brilliant builders who delivered this to such a high standard. You've absolutely nailed your colours to the mast! 🦜

Whether your a seasoned sea dog or a first time adventurer come down and see for yourself! All hands on deck, your park is waiting!

(I don't apologise for going overboard on the pirate puns!)

Last week a few of you raised issues with me about Begbrook Park.

You said the park was falling into disrepair and the weeds and thorns in the park posed a safety risk to children playing.

I raised your concerns with officers who have have notified me that the park which was built in 1990 is now nearing it's end of life, When equipment is this old the council choose not to paint it as it can mask corrosion which can lead to health and safety risks. Officers have assessed that the risk rating is low to medium both through our internal and external inspections.

I will put in an application next year for CIL funding so we can (hopefully) get a new park. In the meantime officers will get rid of the weeds, however unfortunately, this means the park will be closed from the 15th-16th June.

πŸ—οΈ CIL Funding Update for Frome Vale!

This year I'm delighted to share the results of our Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding round and what a year it's been!

When I was out visiting community organisations across Frome Vale, I kept hearing the same thing: brilliant ideas, real needs, but no funding to make them happen. So I made a point of encouraging community groups and initiatives to apply and the response was incredible. We went from just two applications last year to ten this year! A sign of just how much energy and ambition there is in this ward.

Alongside Cllr Louis Martin, Frome Vale Labour Councillor, I've worked hard to spread the funding across Frome Vale, focusing on the priorities we know matter most here: education and training, youth provision and the environment.

I'm thrilled to congratulate our four successful CIL applicants who will move onto stage 2 which will be decided in December.

πŸ€ Oldbury Court Out Of School Clubs
Has applied for a brand new renovated basketball court for young people in the ward after their old one deteriorated.

🌱 College Road Allotments
Has applied for a community garden and smallholding with goats and chickens on a previously disused plot.

πŸ₯¦ Grow Wilder
Has applied for adult educational classes teaching residents how to grow their own food.

🌿 Vassall Community Hub
Has applied for funding towards their community garden.

And separately, great news for residents on Radley Road, funding has been secured for much-needed traffic calming measures you all (nearly the entire street!) requested.

To the six other applicants who put forward such strong ideas, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It was a genuinely difficult process and every submission showed real community spirit and passion. I'll be working to find alternative funding streams for those projects and I hope to see them reapply in the 2027 and 2028 CIL rounds.

Another community win for Frome Vale. More to come. πŸ’š

Update on the KFC planning application in Fishponds πŸ—

Good news! The application for KFC to extend to 24-hour opening has been withdrawn.

Several residents got in touch with me about this one, raising concerns about the impact it would have on the neighbourhood including late night noise, litter, smells and the effect on people whose homes are close to the premises. I submitted a formal councillor objection, and it's clear from the withdrawal that the level of community opposition made it obvious this application wasn't supported. πŸ’š

This is a good reminder that engaging with planning applications matters. When residents speak up and councillors back them, developers take notice. So overall I feel like this is a solid community win.

If you ever have concerns about a planning application in Frome Vale, please get in touch (I'm always happy to help!)
