Policing at the Riviera Airshow

31/05/2026

The Paignton Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to extend our warm congratulations to Torbay Council for delivering another fantastic Riviera Airshow. It was a brilliant weekend that brought our community together to enjoy breathtaking displays, seaside smiles, and plenty of family fun.

A huge thank you to the public for their patience, support, and good spirits throughout the event, and to our neighbourhood policing colleagues from across South Devon who joined us to help keep everyone safe and ensure the show ran smoothly. From the skies above to the promenade below, it was a true team effort—and we’re proud to have played our part in helping another Riviera Airshow soar to success! ✈️☀️👏

Day 3 of the Torbay Airshow in Paignton today. As previously stated, if you are coming into Paignton, please allow more time for your journey and follow road diversions and comply with road closures. It’s hopefully a cooler day, but please still keep yourselves hydrated and bring sun lotion, just in case. We look forward to seeing you.

👮🏼 Dawlish Warren Beach – Police Engagement Update

During the evening of Friday 22 May, following information and intelligence received, officers from our Neighbourhood Teams across South Devon attended Dawlish Warren Beach in response to reports of a large number of young people gathering in the area, some of which had travelled to Dawlish from all over the South Devon area.

Our approach was focused on engagement and education. We recognise that young people want to socialise and enjoy themselves; however, it is important this is done in a safe and responsible manner.

Officers engaged positively with those present, resulting in constructive interactions. While the majority of people were cooperative and respectful, a large number of alcohol seizures were made.

Our primary concern was the safety of the public, particularly given the number of young people present, with many being under the influence of alcohol, on a beach with the tide coming in. Our clear aim was to safeguard those present and ensure everyone was able to leave the area safely.

We would like to thank those who engaged with officers and understood the reasons for our presence and actions.

It is disappointing that officers were also required to assist in clearing litter from the beach afterwards, and we would urge everyone to take responsibility for the environment.

We are aware of further planned gatherings across South Devon. We will continue to take a proactive approach, working to engage and educate. We also ask parents and guardians to consider the risks associated with large, unsupervised public gatherings when making decisions about their children attending such events.

LATEST | Information has been received that planned gatherings involving young people have been arranged in locations across South Devon today, 22 May.

While the majority are good natured and will no doubt want to make the best of the good bank holiday weather, there have been recent incidents involving large groups of young people which have led to antisocial behaviour and community disruption.

In response to those events and today’s information, officers will be carrying out increased high-visibility patrols in known areas and will utilise such powers as Section 35 dispersal orders if considered appropriate.

These orders give officers enhanced powers to prevent antisocial behaviour, reduce disruption and keep the public safe.

What this means:
• Officers can direct individuals or groups to leave the area immediately.
• Those directed must not return within the specified time period.
• Failure to comply is a criminal offence and may result in arrest.
• Anyone under the age of 16 may be taken home or to a place of safety.

Robust action will be taken where necessary.

We thank the community for their continued support and encourage anyone with concerns to contact us via the Force website: https://orlo.uk/kpz7y or by telephone on 101, quoting log 418 of 22 May.

More than 50 award winners gathered at a ceremony in Torquay recently and were joined by their proud family, friends and colleagues. Commendations were handed out for various examples of great bravery and lifesaving first aid. South Devon Police Commander Chief Superintendent Roy Linden said: “It was a privilege to thank officers, staff and police volunteers for acting above and beyond to protect the public. Over the last three evenings, a small group of youths have been involved in anti-social behaviour within Brixham town centre.

Incidents reported include attempts to damage disabled public toilets by kicking doors, throwing toilet rolls across car parks and pavements, climbing onto the roofs of buildings including churches and charity shops, and throwing roof tiles. There have also been reports of individuals climbing onto residential window ledges and looking into people’s homes.

Police are currently gathering photographic evidence and reviewing CCTV footage in relation to those involved. This behaviour is causing significant concern and disruption to the local community and will not be tolerated.

We are working closely with Brixham Community College and the Child Centred Policing Team, Officers will be engaging with parents and guardians where appropriate.

We would ask parents to please be aware of where their children are, who they are associating with, and their behaviour whilst out in the community.

This type of behaviour is unacceptable and must stop

Two boys were seen driving a quad bike across the football pitch at St Marys Park, Brixham last Thursday teatime. These boys appear to have been unsupervised & probably drove onto the land via public roads. We are very interested in speaking with these boys and their parents about this extremely dangerous behaviour. If you have any information on this matter, please email the Neighbourhood Team on [email protected] .

Over the last week a number of motorbikes have been stolen across Brixham. These offences occurred on the eastern side of the town and also Higher Brixham.

Please be vigilant. Thieves only need a matter of seconds to steal a moped, scooter or motorcycle. Please remember to;
Lock your bike/moped
Chain your bike/moped
Cover your bike/moped
If you have a garage or shed, utilise it to store your bike/moped
If you park on a road, if possible, park under street lighting
Fitting an alarm can be a deterrent for thieves
