Even though it can sometimes be hard work, we do get to some scenic places on our patch beside the River Dart. Here are a couple of locations from the last week. Near Greenaway House and another by the Higher Ferry Slip.

We regularly train with our neighbouring stations to provide the best response we can to our local community.

This week we worked with our close colleagues in Dartmouth on a River Dart incident scenario. It was an enjoyable and informative evening for all, utilising the Harbour Masters boats.

A busy day for South Devon fire crews attending multiple incidents.
Brixham were mobilised to Paignton to provide stand-by duties just before 0600. Not long afterwards we were asked to attend the fire at Paignton train station. Upon our arrival, smoke and flames were issuing from various parts of the building with breathing apparatus crews already committed to fighting the fire.
Two breathing apparatus teams from Brixham (4 Firefighters) were committed with colleagues to fight the fire which was now starting to spread through the roof void.
A big thank you to Gilpin Demolition Group for assisting and removing a large section of the roof of the station - this made a huge difference operationally and limited the spread of fire.
Crews returned to Brixham around midday to service equipment and replenish our fire kit only to be remobilised back to Paignton and then on to Torquay to a fire in a roof of a hotel.

🚒🛟🌊🌲🔥Call Out 112🚨

Interesting day for Brixham crews today. Started at 0230 in the early hours with both appliances mobilised to a significant fire which turned into a 4 pump incident. This came off the back of a busy week, hitting call out number 112 for the year. This week ranged from attending the large fire in Bovey Tracey on Wednesday afternoon, to the above and below incidents. These are all around our more routine calls mainly in Brixham but all over the Bay this week.

At lunchtime today we were mobilised to assist Torquay Fire Station colleagues fighting a wildfire on Hopes Nose. The twist being we were being mobilised to attend via the Torbay Lifeboats. To be put ashore on a rock outcrop and supply water to the Torquay crew fighting the fire. This prevented the incident turning into a 6 pump incident due to the 600 meter coastal foot access to the location.

Having liaised with Coastguard prior, we boarded at Brixham Marina with lots of pumping equipment focussed around our Light Portable Pump. Still a very large heavy pump to transition from the Torbay all weather lifeboat, to the inshore lifeboat, then the rocks and back .

This was all successfully completed allowing the Torquay crew to extinguish the fire after hours in the hot sun.

We would like to thank the RNLITorbay for such a warm welcome aboard, and their usual professionalism to get us safely ashore. Their support prevented this becoming a much larger protracted incident for local crews.

This wildfire may have been started accidentally from a deliberate fire in the affected area, an area where fires are actually prohibited. In this current heatwave and summer months we would like to remind people to act responsibly with fires, bbq’s, ci******es and anything such as glass which could amplify the suns rays to cause a fire. These tie up significant resources to resolve and are all too frequent.

We regularly train with the Torbay Lifeboat more usually focussed on maritime incidents, so this was a good opportunity to collaborate on a coastal wildfire.

We will be at the Brixham Fair tomorrow from 13:15 (pending any callouts) if anyone would like to come and look around the Fire Appliance or learn more about what we do.

During last weeks drill night, Brixham Stations Watch Manager Sean Burnell was presented with his 30 year Service Clasp. He has now completed a total of 37 years service within the Fire Service. Quite the achievement which we celebrated with a Presentation by local Station Manager Creed.

We were also saying goodbye to Station Manager Creed who is retiring after 30 years of service. We all wish him a well deserved, fulfilling retirement with the busy plans he has lined up.

With the fantastic weather we are hoping everyone is enjoying, we just want to remind everyone to be careful with where you use and dispose of your disposable barbecues.

Shout 68 of the year for us had us attend a wheelie bin on fire at Fishcombe beach.

Whilst a quick resolution it had us running out lots of lengths of hose down a steep hill from the road.

The ground vegetation is now drying out as we head into the summer so please think carefully and responsibly on where you have your disposable barbecues.

This week at Brixham Fire Station we celebrated 24 years of exemplary service from Mike Booth.

Mike joined the crew at Brixham in 2001 and since then he has attended hundreds of incidents in Brixham and the surrounding areas.

The event was attended by many current and retired colleagues, including GM Matt Radford and SM Darren Creed.

Brixham Station would like to thank Mike for his tireless dedication and commitment over the years, and to say a huge thank you to his wife, Natalie, and their family for all of their support during his time as an On-call firefighter.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Brixham Fire Station charity car wash today.

We raised one of our highest totals in recent years, £869 thanks to all your generous donations. It really does make a difference to supporting firefighters.

We would also like to say thankyou to Jewson’s Brixham for donating the buckets and sponges for today.
