Skye’s Rena MacLean celebrated her 103rd birthday this week at An Acarsaid Care Home in Broadford. There was fizz, cake and entertainment from Iseabail Strachan.

Born the youngest of nine in 1923 in Sconser, Rena went on to Glasgow University and served in the Wrens in WW2.

A keen Gaelic singer, she was one of many people to be recorded by the School of Scottish Studies in the 1950s.

Radio Skye’s Jamie McDonald has been speaking to Rena’s son, Cailean about his mother’s life.

Tune into the Breakfast Show on Monday morning from 9.30am to hear an extended interview with Cailean, including a recording of Rena singing a particular favourite, 'Craobh nan Ubhal' in 1951.

The interview will be available on the Radio Skye Listen Again page and will be broadcast again later in the week.
