Brockenhurst Railway Bridge - E2/40 – Temporary Closure

Following routine inspections of the railway structure carrying a public footpath over the railway, located to the south of Brockenhurst railway station, South Western Railway (SWR) have identified issues with the timber decking that forms the walking surface of the footbridge. As a result, and in the interests of public safety, they have unfortunately had to close the footbridge until the necessary repairs can be undertaken.

The repairs required are extensive and SWR are currently developing plans for the renewal works. At present, they anticipate that these repairs will be carried out during the next financial year due to the level of funding required to undertake the work.

SWR will provide further updates as plans are confirmed and apologise to the local community for any inconvenience caused by the closure.

Every year our colleagues at New Forest District Council check the electoral register to make sure it's up to date.
You'll be getting a letter/email soon, just follow the instructions to make sure you stay on the electoral roll. This is important as local elections are happening in May 2027.

At a playground inspection today, the basket swing was condemned as too dangerous for repair and the Parish Council have removed it on health and safety grounds.

The intense heat has caused the timbers of the structure to shrink and crack, and reports of numbers of youths using the equipment at the same time has probably weakened the swing further.

The good news is that this gives the Parish Council an opportunity to refurbish the playground with new pieces of play equipment. A user survey will be conducted to get ideas about generating play for Under 12s. More information will follow.
