Test the ground with your own paws first!🐾

Extremely hot weather can be dangerous for our four-legged friends. Please take extra care.

Here’s how to keep them safe:
🌊Use cooling aids such as cool mats, paddling pools, or freezing treats (like peanut butter or spreadable cheese) can help regulate body temperature.
🏡It's okay to skip a walk on very hot days. If your dog has access to a secure garden, letting them out for toilet breaks can be a much safer option.
💦Make sure they always have access to fresh water and shade.
🚗Never leave a dog in a parked car, even for a short time.

Puppies, older dogs, and certain breeds (like flat-faced dogs or ones with thicker coats) are more vulnerable to the heat.

If you are concerned about the welfare of an animal, please call our team at Worcestershire Regulatory Services on 01905 822799.

Working together, we can help keep animals safe during hot weather.

Looking for a cool spot during hot weather? Did you know libraries are air conditioned?📖❄️

They can be a place to enjoy a good book or some downtime while escaping the heat.🌡️

Library opening hours vary, so it’s worth checking ahead, and some even offer extended access outside staffed hours through the Libraries Unlocked scheme (registration required).

Want to know more? All the advice and information about libraries across Worcestershire is available from our friends at the county council: https://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/council-services/libraries

A red heat-health alert is in place across southern England and the Midlands. This means extreme heat could affect everyone, including healthy people, and may also impact transport, food, water and energy. This is only the second time a red alert has been issued, the last being in July 2022.

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated in response to the current heatwave.🌡️

Its activation ensures that additional support is available for people who may be at risk, helping to reduce harm and keep people safe. Our Maggs Rough Sleeper Outreach Team are working to respond to these conditions.

The council asks that if you see anyone sleeping rough, please contact thestreetlink.org.uk. If you see a person who is collapsed on the street, please call the Emergency Services immediately.
