🚴‍♀️ Supporting the Angus Cycling Festival Coast Challenge! 🚴‍♂️

We're delighted that Broughty Ferry Lifeboat Station will benefit from donations raised during the Angus Cycling Festival Coast Challenge on Saturday 5 September.

This free, family-friendly event runs along the beautiful Angus coastline between Arbroath and Dundee, with eight activity stations, cycling challenges, prizes, bike maintenance sessions, smoothie bikes, and much more. Participants can ride as much or as little of the route as they like, making it suitable for all ages and abilities.

Today, (Friday August 21st) shortly after 9 AM, our all-weather lifeboat crew launched alongside our colleagues from RNLI Anstruther Lifeboat to assist HM Coastguard in a multi-agency search for a missing person overboard from a passenger vessel, approximately 36 nautical miles east of Arbroath.
Both crews worked alongside aircraft and several nearby vessels in a comprehensive multi-hour search before returning to station approximately 3:30 PM.
Operations like this are a powerful reminder of the dedication required to answer the call at a moment's notice. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible crews for their unwavering commitment, to the partner agencies and vessels who assisted in the search, and to our local community whose ongoing support enables us to launch whenever we are needed.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s incident.

👏 🎉 Huge congratulations to Mark Hutton (centre) who recently successfully passed out as a D Class Helm.

This was his 1st shout as Helm attending to a yacht stranded on Abertay Sands just off Tentsmuir Point.

The role of an RNLI Helm is to take command of an inshore lifeboat during launching, at sea, and during recovery, and is responsible for the safety of the crew onboard and for making critical decisions during rescues. This role required extensive training and rigorous assessments for Mark to ensure proficiency in skills such as search and rescue techniques, navigation, communication, and leadership.

Well done Mark, here at Broughty Ferry RNLI we are all very proud of your achievement & hard work.

🚨 Yacht Rescue on the Abertay Sands 🚨

Both lifeboats launched to reports of a yacht with two people on board aground near Buddon Ness.

On arrival, we found the yacht hard aground on the Abertay Sands, heeled over and taking some decent knocks from the sea. Communications were difficult at first, but we eventually confirmed both people on board were safe and well.

With conditions making it unsafe to get a line onto the yacht, crews stood by and waited for the rising tide. Unfortunately, the yacht remained stuck, so the two crew were safely taken off by the inshore boat and transferred to our All Weather Boat.

As the tide continued to rise, an RNLI crew member was put aboard the yacht and was able to steer her clear of the sands. With concerns about possible damage, fading light, and the risk posed to other river traffic, the decision was made to tow the vessel to Tayport Harbour.

The yacht was safely towed in, with the inshore crew assisting yacht alongside, and thankfully very minimal damage was found.

A good result and a real team effort from lifeboat crews to bring everyone safely ashore.

🌊 July at Broughty Ferry RNLI – What a Month! 🚤🛟
July has been another busy month for our volunteers, with 12 call-outs across our waters.
From broken-down boats and paddleboarders to assisting people in need, our crew have been kept busy and ready to respond whenever they were needed. 💙
But it’s not just our lifeboat crew who have been busy!
Our RNLI shop has been bustling, while our fundraising team have been working hard too, including our fantastic BoatShed Bricks event. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us – your continued generosity makes such a difference. ❤️
We were also delighted to welcome Cycling Without Age Scotland Monifieth to our station. 🚲🌊 It was fantastic to learn more about this wonderful initiative, helping people with additional needs get out and about, enjoy the fresh air and experience our beautiful waterfront.
And, of course, being down by the waterfront means there are always a few surprises! 🐾🐬
This month we made some new friends – including two lovely dogs who we rescued on a boat and we even had the pleasure of spotting dolphins in our waters! 🐶🐶💙🐬
☀️ 25 YEARS OF RNLI LIFEGUARDING! 🛟
We were proud to celebrate 25 years of RNLI Lifeguarding and visited our RNLI Lifeguards Scotland on the beach to show our appreciation for the fantastic work they do keeping beach users safe.

Today we said farewell to one of our own.
In keeping with Murray Brown's wishes, his funeral was a private service. As his cortege passed Broughty Ferry Lifeboat Station on its final journey, current and former lifeboat family stood together in silence to pay their respects.
Murray dedicated so much of his life to saving others, serving with courage, humility and unwavering commitment. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the friendships he built and the generations of crew he inspired.
It was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the RNLI and to the people of Broughty Ferry.
Farewell Murray. Thank you for your service, your friendship and your example.
