A huge thank you to Neil Paterson for his wonderful performance of The Tale of the Great Tay Whale in the Broughty Castle courtyard last night.

It was a truly special evening of entertainment, and we were delighted to host such a unique event in this beautiful setting.

A big thank you as well to everyone who joined us. Your enthusiasm and support helped make the night such a success and created a fantastic atmosphere throughout.

We were delighted to host such a memorable event and look forward to welcoming you back to Broughty Castle again soon.

🌟 SOLD OUT TONIGHT at Broughty Castle 🌟

We're looking forward to welcoming audiences this evening for Neil Paterson's acclaimed one-man show, The Tale of the Great Tay Whale, taking place in the castle courtyard.

📍 Important information for ticket holders:

🕡 Doors open: 6:30pm
🎭 Performance: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
🎫 Ticket checks will take place at the Castle Gate

Access to the castle building will be available for use of the toilets throughout the evening.

Please note that chairs and blankets will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish to make yourself more comfortable.

We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a fantastic evening of storytelling in the unique surroundings of Broughty Castle.

🌟 Make a day of it at Broughty Castle this weekend! 🌟

The Yard Market returns to the castle grounds this Saturday and Sunday, bringing a fantastic selection of local traders, artists, makers and food producers to one of Dundee's most iconic locations.

After browsing the market, step inside the castle museum to discover the story of Broughty Ferry, explore the historic armoury display, learn about the volunteer forces who once protected this strategic stronghold, and enjoy artworks from the collection of former Provost James Guthrie Orchar.

With local shopping, great food and drink, stunning views across the River Tay and free admission to the museum, there's plenty to enjoy throughout the weekend.

What an incredible evening at Broughty Castle for our Eclipse Viewing Event.

Hundreds and hundreds of people joined us at the castle and surrounding area to witness this remarkable celestial event, creating a fantastic atmosphere at one of Dundee's most iconic landmarks.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, explored the Castle Museum, supported our vendors and helped make the evening such a success. We were delighted to see so many families, friends, astronomy enthusiasts and first-time visitors enjoying the experience together.

Special thanks to:
Dundee Astronomical Society, whose members were on hand throughout the evening with specialist knowledge, advice and telescopes, helping visitors get even closer to the action
Dough Dough Pizza Co. for keeping visitors well fed throughout the evening

🌘 Tonight's eclipse promises to be a spectacular sight, but safety comes first. Whether you're joining us at Broughty Castle or viewing from another location, please follow the guidance below to protect your eyesight and enjoy the experience safely.

⚠️ Important Advice for Safe Viewing of a Partial Solar Eclipse

Never look directly at the Sun with your eyes or through an unfiltered optical device such as binoculars, telescopes, cameras, sunglasses, or smoked glass. Even during a partial eclipse, viewing the Sun without proper protection can cause permanent eye damage or blindness.

If you are using eclipse glasses:

✅ Check the lenses for cracks, scratches, or other damage before use.

✅ Face away from the Sun and put on your eclipse glasses before turning to look at it.

✅ Use eclipse glasses for no more than three minutes continuously at a time.

✅ If you normally wear prescription glasses, keep them on and wear eclipse glasses over the top.

✅ When you have finished viewing, turn away from the Sun before removing your eclipse glasses.

🌘 We can't wait to welcome you to Broughty Castle tomorrow (Wednesday 12 August) for our Eclipse Viewing Event!

And it's not just the eclipse that's on offer!

As well as the Castle Museum remaining open until 8pm, we'll have two fantastic food and drink vendors on site throughout the evening. Visitors to our Yard Markets will already be familiar with these popular local favourites:

🍕 Dough Dough Pizza Co.
Serving authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas from their mobile pizzeria.

☕ Brew Defender
Serving speciality coffees and drinks from a beautifully converted Land Rover Defender.

Both vendors will be on site from 4pm, helping to keep visitors fuelled throughout the event.

🏰 Castle Museum opening hours for Wednesday: 10am to 8pm

🌞 Eclipse timings: • Begins: 6:07pm
• Maximum eclipse: 7:04pm (approximately 91.6% of the Sun obscured)
• Ends: 8:00pm

This is a free event. Demand for eclipse glasses has been incredible and we've now sold over 600 pairs, meaning we are completely sold out and have no further stock available.

We're looking forward to welcoming visitors to Broughty Castle for Wednesday's Eclipse Viewing Event.

Following the amazing response to the event announcement, we purchased an additional 200 pairs of eclipse glasses, bringing our total stock to 600.

Due to exceptional demand, all eclipse glasses have now sold out, and we're unlikely to receive any further stock before the eclipse.

If you're planning to join us at Broughty Castle to observe the eclipse, please make sure you bring approved eclipse viewing glasses.

⚠️ Remember: never look directly at the sun without certified eclipse viewing protection.
