We would like to say a massive thank you to Andrew Lamb & Laura Cameron from the Scottish Ambulance Service for coming along to our drill night last night for some joint learning scenarios.

Our crew were able to demonstrate how we carry out our casualty care. From A-E assessments, wound management and obtaining information for handover forms.

We were also able to try out CPR on a dummy which is connected through Bluetooth. This allowed us to see whether the depth and speed is correct through an app on our phone when carrying out chest compressions on a casualty.

Massive thank you again to Scottish Ambulance Service for your help.

Yesterday, our crew took part in a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) training day at Bathgate Fire Station alongside Livingston Fire Station on-call crew.

We were able to get hands on with all equipment for these types of incidents, carrying out roof and door removals and casualty extraction during our scenario drills whilst also learning new techniques that can help our crews in the future.

Thank you to Crew Commanders Logan Ritchie & Charlie O’Hanlon for leading today’s training and helping our crew out.

In light of some recent incidents where crews have been unable to locate a fire for some time or at all, we’d like to share an app that can help the public and our crews.

What3Words is app that can be used by anyone to help pinpoint an exact location. This pinpoint location will then generate 3 random words, which can then be passed over during the 999 call to our Operation Control team on the other side.

Whether you are unsure of where you are and don’t know street names, or it’s something in the distance, using What3Words can help save crews valuable time in locating and dealing with the incident efficiently. With us coming into wildfire season now, this app can prove to be vital.

Below is a link to the app where it is free to download.

Thanks for your help.

Sadly we wave goodbye to Firefighter Jay Aitken who has decided to leave Broxburn Fire Station after 2 incredible years, as he moves on to try different challenges.

Jay joined the Fire Service in March 2024 and has since dedicated himself to becoming an absolutely brilliant firefighter. He has helped protect and serve his community and surrounding areas for over 2 years.

Watch Commander McKenzie and the crew got together to thank Jay for his service at his final drill night.

Everyone at Broxburn Fire Station wishes you the very best for whatever your future holds Jay.

We would like to congratulate one of our crew members, Crew Commander Shelley Boyd on her recent promotion.

Shelley passed the Ticket to Ride assessments in October 2025 and has just successfully passed the interview stage to become Crew Commander.

Shelley can now take charge of various incidents we attend and having joined Broxburn Fire Station in 2010 and also working full-time with Scottish Ambulance Service, Shelley will bring a vast amount of knowledge, skills and experience into this new role.

Well done Shelley.

We’ve managed to pluck out an old photo of the Broxburn Fire Station crew from an incident on October 11th 2002.

The incident was at Oatridge College Farm with a large quantity hay bales alight within the barn area. The incident spanned over 2 days, with crews remaining in attendance for long periods at a time.

The crew in the photo shown are as follows ( From Left to Right )

Derek McGhee, John McGinn, Kevin O’Hara, Alan Shaw, Grant Colligan & Gary Raeburn.

24 years on from the incident, Gary Raeburn still remains at Broxburn Fire Station proudly serving his community 💪🚒

What a fantastic day yesterday was for us to see a community come together again to raise an incredible amount of money for two brilliant charities, The Firefighters Charity & Jaxon’s Gift.

The total amount raised from yesterday’s car wash was an amazing £1617.19.

Thank you to the families, friends and the crew from Livingston Fire Station for your help and support throughout the day, we couldn’t have done this without you’s all.

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone that came along to get there cars or vans washed and made a donation. Your support truly means a lot to all of us here at Broxburn Fire Station ♥️

Last night our crew were kindly invited along to one of our operational control rooms at Tollcross Fire Station.

Control room staff are a hugely important part of the Fire Service as they are the ones who take the 999 calls, provide critical life saving advice, support fire crews on the ground as well as mobilising resources and managing incidents.

For most of our crew, this was their first visit to control, so were able to get a better understanding of how an incident is managed from the first 999 call, through to the final stop message being radioed back.

Thank you to Crew Commander Andrew Fenton for kindly giving us the tour and to the Red Watch control staff for accommodating us.

Sometimes in life, good things come to an end, and at Broxburn Fire Station, it’s now one of those times.

Crew Commander Glynn McAffer, after nearly ten years service, has taken the decision to hang up his pager, and concentrate on his full time role in the Fire Service, spending more time with his family and starting an exciting new venture.

It’s safe to say that Glynn has been a larger than life character in the station. His knowledge and expertise has been invaluable for the rest of the crew, especially for the new trainees that have arrived at the station and began their Fire Service careers.

He has thrown himself into every challenge and when it comes to raising funds for local charities, he is always first in line.

Broxburn and the surrounding area has been a safer place with CC McAffer part of the crew.

He will be missed by us all, but his legacy will live on with every one of the crew having benefitted from the time spent working with Glynn.

Glynn, you have been more than a colleague. We are proud to call you a friend, and everyone at the station wishes you every success in your new venture.
