100 YEARS NOT OUT!

Between us we have racked up 100 years service for Royal Mail and the Post office .
Colin started in Bude in 1984 then went to Bideford in 1996 and returned home last year.
I started in 1995 as a postman then head postmaster .
Chris was postmaster of Marhamchurch and then joined us as our outreach manager who serves Bridgerule , Marhamchurch and kilkhampton also Bude .
Not forgetting our Briliant liam who’s also notched up 17 years starting when he was 18.

Kilkhampton ladies have been knitting poppies all year to make a train for the tower of St James Church - Kilkhampton. A massive endurance.

Metal poppies have also been made by Greenfield Engineering Sheet Metal Ltd for a garden of remembrance in kilkhampton church yard , they will be on sale from 1st September from Gilbert and Vanstone The London Inn, Kilkhampton. The New Inn Kilkhampton Spar Stores Kilkhampton.

I am delighted to announce that Bude & Stratton Branch Royal British Legion and Bude-Stratton Town Council are also on board and you can purchase poppies from the 1st September ( £5 minimum donation) from Bude Post Office to place on shalder hill ( war memorial ) from 1st October .

Let’s make this a wonderful display to honour our fallen who payed the ultimate sacrifice for us to be free and to commemorate the end of the Second World War .

These Metal Remembrance poppies are being made locally as we speak to make a garden of remembrance in St James Church - Kilkhampton

Remembrance questions and answers.

Where can I get my poppy and where do I pay?

Gilbert and Vanstone, London inn, New inn, Spar shop, Bude post office.

How much are they

£5 each minimum donation.

Can I buy more than one poppy?

Yes you can have as many as you require.

What colours are they?

Poppy Red , deep red , silver.

Where can I place them ?

You can either place them in kilkhampton churchyard making a garden of remembrance, or you can take it home to place in your own garden.

If I place my poppy in the church can I get it after remembrance ?

Yes there will be a given date for people to collect poppies after remembrance is over.

How will I know which poppy is mine if it goes in the churchyard ?

Please feel free to write your name in permanent marker on the stem before placing in the churchyard. if you are unable to locate your original poppy there will be plenty to allocate afterwards.

Where does the money go?

All proceeds go to RBL Poppy appeal 2025.

Did the poppies cost anything to make ?

No they were kindly donated courtesy of Green Field engineering, Holsworthy.

Do children have to pay for them ?

No , all kilkhampton school children will get them free, this includes cheldern , westlands , and kilkhampton school. For any other children a small donation would be requested.

What’s the first date I can purchase one ?

September the 1st.

When is the first date they can be placed there ?

October the 1st.

When should I collect my poppy after remembrance ?

December the 1st.

All post offices nationally have had a system failure. .

We are closed for the time being.

Kilkhampton church post box -

Unfortunately Royal Mail in their wisdom have decided that there is not a need for a post box in the centre of a thriving busy village .
And will be removing the box today.

I have done every thing in my power to try and keep
The box there and make it permenant but in this crazy world we live in the powers that be have decided to remove it .

This is a Royal Mail decision not post office .

I do apologise I do suggest that customers who use that box get hold of their local MP and they can forward their frustration to the CEO of Royal Mail .

I am more than upset with this decision .

And feel for the parishioners of kilkhampton who frequently use this box .
