Temporary Fencing – Wildlife Area

We have installed temporary fencing across the hedge between the Hare Street Road Wildlife Area and Dray Gardens.

Residents can still enjoy the wildlife area, with access available further down the playing fields. There is no official access between Dray Gardens and the wildlife area, however, over the years, gaps have opened up in the hedgerow as people have created informal routes through.

The Town Council will soon be starting work to improve the wildlife area. As part of these improvements, we are looking to reinstate the hedgerow and fill in the existing gaps. The fencing has therefore been installed as a temporary measure to prevent access through the hedge while allowing the hedgerow to recover.

We are also currently experiencing a high level of fly-tipping in the wildlife area. We hope that restricting access through the hedgerow will help to reduce this.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while these improvements are carried out.

Changes to Hertfordshire councils confirmed.

Changes to Hertfordshire councils confirmed ✅

The government has announced its decision on the future of Hertfordshire’s councils as part of its Local Government Reorganisation programme.

From April 2028, the existing 11 county, district and borough councils across Hertfordshire will be replaced by four unitary authorities.

Nothing is changing for now; the services we deliver will continue as normal. Behind the scenes, we will be working closely with the other Hertfordshire councils to lay the groundwork for the new authorities. We will share further updates over the coming weeks and months as more details are confirmed.
