Our Reengage, Refocus and Reintegration ethos came into its own as Sussex APC 3R team worked with a Year 1 primary pupil - stimulating deep engagement in learning around Julia Donaldson's 'StickMan' story. This teaching forms part of our 3R team's outreach support - introducing structure and routine to a pupil's bespoke timetable, with 2:1 support.

Our Crawley students visited Plumpton, East Sussex for a 'Farm to Fork experience, where they learned about the origins of food and clarified some popular misconceptions. They cooked some unusual lunch recipes including chocolate cookies blended with beans, plus more traditional fare including sausage cassoulet - all guided by Chef Ellie from Prept. Foundation

Burgess Hill Year 11 students enjoyed their work experience with Howie's Coffee & Co. developing Barista skills along with teamwork and community feel-good factor. Pupils also got creative - designing their own personalised logos to display on the coffee van for their Barista shift on the last training day, when parents could sample their Flat Whites and Chai Lattes.

Our Burgess Hill primary pupils enjoying Forest School last week, where they learned some important life skills including building a fire, chopping firewood plus making and cooking pancakes. Run by Wild Foxes Forest School the children have loved getting stuck into their inspiring outdoor learning.

Burgess Hill and Crawley Students enjoyed a visit to Thakeham - meeting trades including plumbers, boarders, grounds workers, site managers and carpenters. Each trade spoke about their role, hours worked and pay - giving students a great insight into various jobs and training routes, plus a feel for working in this industry. Thank you Thakeham Homes

Our Lancing & Littlehampton students enjoyed a visit to Goodwood Farm last week. They learnt about where our food comes from, as well as seeing first-hand the range of jobs available in the farming community.

Students also made their own flour and butter - using old farming techniques - which added to their engagement and fun. There was also an in-depth look at state-of-the-art milking machines, plus an old milking parlour too, so they could compare the benefits of each and understand how technology enhances rather than replaces jobs. This part of the tour inspired some great questions from students.

Lancing students enjoyed visiting Worthing fire station - chatting to firefighters about their role, salary & training. They also had a timed challenge - putting on firefighter uniform, air supply and mask in under a minute. Unsurprisingly, water hose practice proved a highlight 😂 Thanks for hosting - giving us an insight into working for the fire service.

Our Littlehampton students worked with Ben Cavanagh from Future Creators and photographer Anna Warin to recreate artwork for Littlehampton Museum's "Re-imagining Gwendolen" exhibition on 31st January.

Local youngsters were asked to create new artworks inspired by Gwendolen's portrait - exploring their own creative responses through fine art, sculpture, photography, and fashion.

"The engagement was really brilliant and although very much out of their comfort zone, I think students really grew in confidence and thrived in the workshop.

I hope this workshop, along with seeing where their work ends up in the exhibition, gives our young people an insight into the importance of creativity in the wider world, as well as an understanding of what it takes to work as a professional photographer. It was also so lovely to hear the students take an interest in the history of Gwendolen and the museum."
