RNLI-Burnham on Crouch

RNLI-Burnham on Crouch The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Burnham-on-Crouch has had a lifeboat station in the town for over 50 years.

We are also one of only three stations in the country to have both boats kept in floating boathouses. We have two boats – one being an Atlantic 85 B849, the ‘Tony & Robert Britt’. This boat arrived on station in August 2011. We also have an IB1, the ‘Ernest & Rose Chapman II’. This boat arrived on station in February 2007. Having outgrown the station at the eastern end of the town, the existing st

ation was built in 1997 at the western end of the town in the new marina. At the same time, the floating boathouses were also situated in the marina to house the Atlantic and the D-class, with the addition of a larger boathouse to accommodate the new Atlantic 85 arriving in 2011.

Both of our boats were in action recently; this picture was captured as our D class was leaving the marina.

A successful tasking involving both the Atlantic and the D Class. The level of communication between the crew that is needed for a successful outcome is inspiring. It is not just between boats but also to the shore, radioing to our launch authorities and the coastguard.

Launching both boats simultaneously takes a huge amount of man power from LA’s, shore crew and boat crew. Well done team!

Thanks everyone who came to support the brew with the crew yesterday.

The crew love nothing more than to show people around the station and share their passion.

Volunteering is not something you do because you have to. It is done because people want to make a difference and to support our local community.

Please keep an eye out for our next event!

Brew with the Crew this coming Saturday! We welcome you to some tea and cake with a tour of our station and boats.

Last Wednesday the crew were tasked by HM Coastguard, details of the tasking below.

Well done to all every member of crew involved. There's nothing quite like navigating in thick fog!

On Wednesday 4 March 2026, the volunteer crew of Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI was tasked in poor visibility to the aid of 11 people aboard a boat with engine failure.

International Women's Day has been observed since 1911. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The theme this year is Give To Gain.

Looking back into the history of the Burnham-on-Crouch RNLI for this piece of writing, it is station talk (although I cannot find documented proof) that we actually had the first all-female D-class launch to a tasking by RNLI volunteers nationwide.

The RNLI values every single volunteer dedicating their time, inclusion and equality are core to a successful organisation.

The theme of this year's International Women’s Day celebrated on the 8 March is Give to Gain. Volunteering for a lifesaving charity is certainly one way people are able Give to Gain through their actions.
