RNLI-Burnham on Crouch

RNLI-Burnham on Crouch The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Burnham-on-Crouch has had a lifeboat station in the town for over 50 years.

We are also one of only three stations in the country to have both boats kept in floating boathouses. We have two boats – one being an Atlantic 85 B849, the ‘Tony & Robert Britt’. This boat arrived on station in August 2011. We also have an IB1, the ‘Ernest & Rose Chapman II’. This boat arrived on station in February 2007. Having outgrown the station at the eastern end of the town, the existing st

ation was built in 1997 at the western end of the town in the new marina. At the same time, the floating boathouses were also situated in the marina to house the Atlantic and the D-class, with the addition of a larger boathouse to accommodate the new Atlantic 85 arriving in 2011.

Yesterday our D class David and Barbara Chapman was afloat for the first day of Burnham Week.

The river was extremely busy with a floatila welcoming home Row Aurora. During which the crew were alerted to one of the rowing boats from the flotilla in difficulty against the shoreline. The crew made way to them, and assisted them back to safer water.

The crew then practiced their mooring and berthing visiting tallship_phoenix. A magnificent tall ship who is open for visits over the bank holiday weekend. Simply hale the burnham_ferry and they will take you aboard for a tour. (There is a small fee for the ferry and tour)

Burnham on Crouch has a new boat in town.

Oddfellows - Making friends, helping people is currently on relief at Burnham on Crouch whilst our boat Tony and Robert Britt is away for refit.

Members from the non for profit organisation, The Oddfellows visited the station to view their boat which is the 7th the group has kindly donated to the RNLI and to pay credit for all the hard work our volunteer crew do.

The boat Oddfellows - making friends, helping people has began her afloat life as part of the relief fleet before being stationed permanently at Sheringham RNLI lifeboat station next year.

Many thanks to the organisation, The Oddfellows for all your fundraising and ultimately in helping to save lives at sea.

Both of our boats were in action recently; this picture was captured as our D class was leaving the marina.

A successful tasking involving both the Atlantic and the D Class. The level of communication between the crew that is needed for a successful outcome is inspiring. It is not just between boats but also to the shore, radioing to our launch authorities and the coastguard.

Launching both boats simultaneously takes a huge amount of man power from LA’s, shore crew and boat crew. Well done team!

Thanks everyone who came to support the brew with the crew yesterday.

The crew love nothing more than to show people around the station and share their passion.

Volunteering is not something you do because you have to. It is done because people want to make a difference and to support our local community.

Please keep an eye out for our next event!

Brew with the Crew this coming Saturday! We welcome you to some tea and cake with a tour of our station and boats.
