How sad….this tree was full of fruit in the Community Orchard in Newton Road Park…..someone has decided it was fun to break it off. This orchard is there to give residents the chance to pick some fruit for their meals and to taste different varieties.

NEWTON ROAD PARK HIMALAYAN BALSAM

On Saturday 6 June we are holding a Himalayan Balsam pulling session in the park. After a wet winter this will get a hold and seed if we don’t pull it. The work is mainly in the woods and is easy to do (just pull up root and tread on it). I am hoping as many people can join us between 9 am and 12 noon and 2 pm and 4 pm. Come for as long or short a time you want and please bring gloves cover arms and legs.

Hope to see as many people as possible.

NEWTON ROAD PARK

Last night I had the honour of attending the Trent and Dove Community Impact Awards 2026 at Pirelli Stadium and I won the Gardener of the Year 2026. This is for work on the park and we would not be at this situation without the help of my Volunteers and you out there that provide me with plants and help etc. My thanks also goes to East Staffs Open Spaces for their help and support and Winshill Parish Council.

Alexandra Road also won the Street/Community of the year so Winshill did well!
