⚠️Please note that the entire reserve is CLOSED TODAY, Thursday 14 May 2026.

This closure is necessary for essential tree maintenance along our entrance track, and we want to ensure your safety during this time.

Don't forget the salt marsh is a great place to spot birds like, Spoonbill, Ringed Plover, Avocet, Greenshank and other migrating birds, these have all been seen recently around the Parkgate area.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

The reserve will reopen as usual, 9am tomorrow Friday 15 May.

Despite blowing a hoolie across the reserve, a wide variety of sightings were to be had. Swifts, sand martins and house martins all wheeling around. On the scrape, little ringed plovers, an early morning sighting of a dark bellied Brent Goose and a barnacle goose and great black backed gull. Also encouraging to see several of the avocets now with chicks out and about and a lot of nesting birds of various types. Around the reedbed area, good views of chiffchaff, sedge, cetti's and reed warblers, whitethroat, blackcap as well as grasshopper warbler heard.

🍃Are you looking to invest some dedicated time in yourself, connect with nature, and develop a rewarding creative practice?🌼

Join us for a nature journaling workshop with Alex, where you’ll discover the rich tapestry of local plants and animals, their names, folklore, and life cycles.

We’ll kick off with a guided walk through the nature reserve to gather inspiration and learn about the wildlife around us. After our walk, we’ll regroup in our dedicated room to explore various journaling techniques.

A small sketchbook and art supplies will be provided for you to take home, and you’re welcome to bring along your own sketchbook or any inspiring items like photos or leaves!

All skill levels are welcome and booking is essential; https://events.rspb.org.uk/events/153102

Lovely summer's day of birdwatching at Burton Mere Wetlands. Lots of Warblers singing around the reserve. Waders in summer plumage on the scrape including a smart spotted redshank. Over 1000 knot on the Centenary Pool were a special favourite with our visitors. Lists from the last two days in the photo.
