How did you find the hot weather in your pregnancy, and the first month of your babies life? We’d love to hear from you!

Drop-in Vaccination Clinic dates for September 💉

Our vaccination team are still hard at work ensuring you’re able to get your pregnancy vaccinations to protect your baby. As we come into the colder seasons, the flu vaccine is now available in our vaccination clinic.

We can give you:
✅ Flu vaccine
✅ Whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine, ideally between 16-32 weeks
✅ The RSV vaccine from 28 weeks

Our vaccination team is in Birch House at West Suffolk Hospital — no appointment needed, just pop in! Or if you would like to book, you can do so via the National Booking service.

A VERY SPECIAL DELIVERY!

Today we’re celebrating student midwife Leena, who earlier this week delivered her 40th baby!

Before qualifying, all student midwives need to support and facilitate 40 spontaneous vaginal deliveries. On top of this, they need to perform 100 antenatal examinations, examine 100 woman and babies postnatally, and be signed off in a full range of proficiencies required to be a practicing midwife. They also need to complete 4600 hours of learning, split between theoretical and clinical education. Catching’ their 40th delivery is always a huge milestone for our students, and so we celebrate their achievement with our number 40 tiara and a sash that reads ‘40 beautiful babies’.

Leena says ‘It has been an absolute privilege caring for so many beautiful families at the WSH over the last 2 years. I want to say a massive thank you to West Suffolk for all the support and encouragement during my training, I am so excited to begin my new journey as a newly qualified midwife.’

Congratulations to Leena and to the beautiful new arrival’s family!

If you need to speak to us due to concern for you and your baby, including pain, bleeding, a change in your babies movements, you think your waters have broken, you think you’re in labour, or are concerned about yourself or your baby please call 01284 713272.

Please do not delay seeking care if you believe you need to be seen - you are more than welcome to just attend the hospital if you cannot get through on the phone.

Please note our social media channels are not routinely monitored and messages sent via here will not be answered overnight.

RAINBOW BABY DAY 🌈

A huge thank you to Chloe for sharing her journey of pregnancy after loss and welcoming her rainbow baby Eliza.

Women experiencing pregnancy after loss are cared for by our Rainbow Team. This is a team comprised of specialist midwives and obstetricians who provide care to ensure the safety and wellbeing of mothers experiencing pregnancy following baby loss. The team understand that no amount of time is enough for a family to get over the loss of a child, and the decision to try again can feel overwhelming. The rainbow team therefore focus not only on physical safety, but mental wellbeing and support.

Tomorrow is National Rainbow Baby Day 🌈

A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the same way that a rainbow shines in the sky following a storm, rainbow babies bring light and hope to families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Although they in no way replace the baby that has been lost, Rainbow Baby Day is about celebrating the rainbow, honouring the loss and acknowledging hope.

Tomorrow, in order to celebrate the day, we will be sharing a story of a family who have welcomed their rainbow baby with us at West Suffolk, to share hope for those still waiting for their rainbow to appear.

Today we’re celebrating student midwife Phoebe, who earlier this week delivered her 40th baby!

Phoebe says ‘I have spent two years of my midwifery placement at West Suffolk Hospital where I really felt supported to learn and excel in my career. ✨ International Neonatal Nurses Day ✨

Today, we want to take a moment to celebrate our truly incredible neonatal nurses and recognise the amazing work they do every single day. 💜

The care, compassion, dedication and kindness they show to our tiniest patients and their families is something very special. They are there through some of the most difficult, emotional and precious moments, offering not only exceptional care but comfort, reassurance and support when it’s needed most.

To celebrate them, we wanted to share some of the wonderful feedback we’ve received from families about the difference our neonatal nurses have made. These lovely words are such a beautiful reminder of just how much their care means to the families they support.

We’ve also received some incredible feedback about our neonatal nursery nurses, who are equally amazing, work so incredibly hard and we couldn’t celebrate our team without sharing some of those lovely words too. 💕

Everyone who works on NNU plays such an important part in caring for our babies and their families. You really are angels, and you are appreciated more than words can say.

Happy International Neonatal Nurses Day to our wonderful team – and to neonatal nurses everywhere! ✨
