Keeping our village safe and pleasant

Chedburgh Parish Council is becoming increasingly concerned about a number of recent incidents around the village that could be regarded as antisocial behaviour and, in some cases, potentially vandalism.

The most recent incident involved paper being deliberately burnt in a corner of the playing field.

What may seem like harmless behaviour can have serious consequences. Fire can spread quickly, particularly during dry or windy conditions, putting nearby property, wildlife and people at risk. There is also the potential for damage to public facilities and for someone to be seriously injured.

If incidents of this nature continue or escalate, they could result in damage to facilities that are provided for everyone to enjoy, increased costs to the community, and potentially the involvement of the police or other authorities.

We would particularly ask parents and carers to speak with their children and young people about respecting the playing field, village facilities and the wider community, and to help them understand the risks and consequences associated with fire, damage and antisocial behaviour.

The Parish Council does not want to overreact to isolated incidents, but neither should we ignore behaviour which, if allowed to continue, could become more serious.

Please help us to keep Chedburgh safe, welcoming and a pleasant place for everyone to live and enjoy.

Anti-social behaviour

We all want our neighbourhood to be a safe and welcoming place, and reporting anti-social behaviour (ASB) plays a crucial role in achieving that. While social media platforms like Facebook can be useful for sharing concerns, they are not an official reporting tool.
To ensure issues are properly addressed, it's important to report them through the correct channels.

How to Report Anti-Social Behaviour:

Call 101 for non-emergency ASB (e.g. vandalism, persistent noise, public disturbances)
Call 999 in an emergency (if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate danger)
Report online via Suffolk Police

Report antisocial behaviour by using our simple online reporting tool.

PLAY AREA UPDATE

As some of you may have seen already seen we have replaced both sets of swings due to them becoming unsafe to use.

Unfortunately we were not able to source another toddler swing that an adult or other children could sit in the middle.

The toddler swings were installed slightly too low but this how now be rectified.

We have also installed pigeon spikes on both sets of swings and will be installing them on the wooden climbing frame in the next few days. Disappointingly the spikes have only been up a couple of weeks and have already been damaged - it looks like the toddler swings have been thrown over the frame and squashed the spikes.

The next item to be looked at will be the roundabout which needs the bearings replaced. We have the bearings but we are just waiting for a date from the company of when they will be able to fit them - likely in the next 5 weeks hopefully.

GENTLE REMINDER - If your children use the play area please can you remind them to be respectful of the equipment as it’s there for everyone to use.

Thank you

Emma Wreathall
Parish Clerk

The toddler swings are currently out of action and are being replaced - unfortunately we couldn't source the same style swing set so we have got two toddler swings going up tomorrow afternoon.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

What a fantastic day at the Chedburgh Village Fete!

On behalf of Chedburgh Parish Council, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who helped make today’s event such a success.

A huge thank you goes to the organising committee, whose hard work, planning and dedication made the day possible. Thank you also to everyone who ran stalls, provided displays and activities, donated prizes, volunteered their time, and helped behind the scenes before, during and after the event.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along to support the fête. It was wonderful to see so many residents, families, friends and visitors enjoying everything our village has to offer. Events like this bring our community together, strengthen friendships, and showcase the fantastic community spirit that makes Chedburgh such a special place to live.

Your support, generosity and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated, and I hope everyone had an enjoyable day.

Thank you all for making the 2026 Chedburgh Village Fete such a memorable success.
