We’re delighted to announce that we have secured £60K in round two of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Everyday Economy Fund (formerly Foundational Economy Innovation Fund). The money will help us further develop a digital museum for our previous exhibitions as well as learning resources for schools.

The fund was launched in 2023 to support ideas that drive innovation and improve productivity in key sectors which include Care, Culture and Retail.

Huge thanks to GMCA for confirming the funds – more information on the project to follow shortly.

We recently said goodbye to three Chinese students (post grad) from The University of Manchester who joined us for three months on placement. Yintong, Yidan and Esther worked on various live projects across the museum including data capture, audience development as well as image and interpretation management. We loved having them with us and will miss their valuable input. Here are a few kind words from Yintong about her time with us:

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Colonel Brian Gorski, Chair of The Fusilier Museum, for granting us this placement opportunity and to all the team members for being so incredibly warm and welcoming!

A special, heartfelt thank you goes to our amazing General Manager and placement mentor, John Harwood! Thank you so much for investing so much time and energy into guiding us. From weekly catch-ups and deep dives into the museum's current situation and visions, to giving us invaluable feedback—you made sure we always knew the meaningful impact of our work. Thanks to your guidance, I now have a much deeper understanding of museum operations and future strategic directions.

It has been so rewarding to witness and contribute to the museum's ongoing transformations. Knowing that our efforts made a real difference fills my heart with joy! Thank you again to the wonderful team at The Fusilier Museum."

Please support all the places you love ❤️ and sign the petition, spearheaded by Tom Kerridge to lower the rate of VAT for hospitality to 10%.

Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities.

In the UK, we all pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your pint, meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it’s 10%. In Germany? 7%.

Let’s stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality. Link in bio x

We have a fabulous team of volunteers here at the museum. Without them we wouldn't be able to do half the things we do so we're extremely grateful.

If you have ever thought about volunteering or have an interest in military history we'd love to hear from you. Find out more on our website!

As part of Volunteers' Week we are profiling some of the wonderful people who make up our team of Volunteers.

Today we have David and Deborah who work alongside our Curator and Archivist on a weekly basis. David has been with us for nearly 15 years and Deborah 5 years. They are currently working on a project in our medal room, researching the stories of the soldiers behind the medals.

Thank you both for all that you do!

Yesterday we had a special visit from Justin Maciejewski - Director at the National Army Museum Justin has been meaning to visit us for quite a while now so it was an absolute honour to finally welcome him to Bury to experience the museum for himself.

As part of the visit, Justin had a tour of the galleries before meeting the wider team to discuss all things military museums. We also chatted through our future plans for the museum including the upgrade of the exhibition spaces.

Thanks so much for visiting Justin - we hope you enjoyed your visit!

Today marks the start of an annual UK-wide campaign to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

As a small independent museum we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them. They give so much to our organisation and we'd like to thank each and every one of them for their time, effort and contributions.

Something exciting is coming! Can anyone guess what it is? Answers on a postcard please!Olive's Kitchen
