The Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway National Trust is a charity caring for Special Places, For Ever, For Everyone. Come and walk in the footsteps of Giants.

The unique geology of the Giant's Causeway makes it a UNESCO World Heritage site and Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction. Nearly 40,000 polygonal basalt columns packed closely together form a pathway of stepping stones stretching out to sea. The columns were formed by the cooling and shrinking of molten lava from a volcanic eruption over 60 million years ago. But the unique nature o

f the Causeway has fuelled the imagination of locals and visitors for centuries. Legend tells us the Giant Finn McCool created the Causeway as a challenge to his Scottish rival, Benandonner. Come and find out more by exploring our new visitors centre and having your own adventure. Come and find Finn's boot, abandoned on the shore. See his
chimney stacks reach into the sky. And don't forget to make a wish at the Wishing Chair...

A team that goes beyond...💚

As we welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to the World Heritage Site each year, you can imagine we gather quite the collection of lost property. This however, tops them all🫶

At the beginning of July, a visitor got in touch following his trip to the Giant's Causeway with his son, all the way from Australia🗺️

Whilst enjoying the breath-taking views along the clifftop trail, his son lost his hat. His Father explained that the 'Brisbane Broncos' cap held special sentimental value to his son, following the recent passing of his Mother.

Determined to help, our very own Nature Engagement Officer, Dr Cliff set out to retrieve the hat using 10-metres of wire. The first attempt of retrieval was unsuccessful, with the wire proving both too short, and too wobbly! So...it was back to the drawing board.

The next day, armed with a homemade 15-metre 'fishing rod' made from conduit pipe and a hook, Dr Cliff ventured back up the clifftop trail for another go! After several tense moments, and many visitors watching along, the hat was finally caught by the strap, carefully pulled to safety and returned to Murray and his son, thanks to our trusted Retail/Warehouse team!🙌

Murray was absolutely delighted and ever so grateful when he heard that the hat was recovered, as was his son!🧢

Just another day at the office💚

The 2026 Budget Energy Super Cup NI is in full swing!⚽

Now in its 43rd year, the globally renowned annual youth tournament returns to the Causeway Coast this week, welcoming some of the world's most prestigious academies, alongside elite teams from NI and ROI!🏃

With matches scheduled to take place in Bushmills, if you're visiting the Giant's Causeway this week and plan to avail of the Park and Ride Service from Dundarave Car Park, OR you're arriving in a campervan, here's some important info to help you plan your visit⬇️

⚽ The football grounds in Bushmills are located to the rear of Dundarave Car Park, where the Park and Ride service operates from. During this period of the Super Cup, parking will be extremely limited, therefore we strongly recommend that you arrive early to Dundarave Car Park to avoid disappointment.

⚽ Once parked up, purchase your Park and Ride ticket from within Bushmills Visitor Information Centre, which includes admission into the Visitor Experience and your Translink bus fare, and hop on the bus to the World Heritage Site

For more info on how to plan your visit to the Giant's Causeway this week, head over to our website⬇️
