Poole's Cavern is a two million year old limestone cave that first opened to the public in the 1850s. Described as one of ‘The seven wonders of the Peak’, curious visitors have explored the chambers under candlelight. Visitors today are escorte

d in comfort and safety through the beautifully illuminated chambers by enthusiastic guides who will unfold the fascinating story of the cavern’s history, myths and legend. Archaeologists have discovered thousands of remains, many of which are on display in the Visitor Centre. Enjoy a lunch or snack with us at , with homemade cakes and daily specials on offer. Alternatively picnic in the grounds or country park. Browse our gift shop for the perfect memento or gift . We stock a range of local crafts, gemstones and toys. Complete your day and take a stroll through Buxton Country Park: 100 acres of beautiful sheltered woodland. Meet Charlie the lime burner and other woodland sculptures along the way to Solomon’s Temple viewpoint with commanding views of the Peak District from the summit of Grin Low at 1400 feet above sea level. Join us at Poole’s Cavern on Sunday 13th December at 7pm for a very special evening of live music, Christmas favourites and plenty of festive spirit.

🎺 Fairfield Brass Band will open the evening with 45 minutes of festive brass favourites in our Visitor Centre, before a short interval and then a journey underground…

🎶 Christmas Sing-Along in the Cave
Once inside the cavern, singer, performer and musical director Ray Mcleod will lead us through 45 minutes of Christmas favourites, and you’re invited to join in!

With the natural acoustics of the cavern, festive lighting and the sound of voices echoing through the rock formations, this promises to be a Christmas experience you won’t forget.

Created in partnership with the The Thomas Theyer Foundation, this brand-new family nature trail celebrates the Animals of Buxton — past and present — while creating a lasting memorial to Thomas and supporting wellbeing, nature, and community connection.

Featuring 14 illustrated animal discs and new woodland carvings, the trail brings Buxton’s rich natural history to life in an engaging and imaginative way for children and families 💚
