Hogshaw Rec & Nature Reserve

Hogshaw Rec & Nature Reserve Appreciate what we have...... Hogshaw is home to so much wildlife and is currently under threat as many of our green spaces are.

Hogshaw more specifically is a wildlife corridor within the town of Buxton and home to many species of animals. Help protect these amazing spaces by sharing and raising awareness for them. The world needs you to fight for these spaces and fight for change, we can't keep destroying these areas, these areas are a balance for all life, a balance for our mental and physical health a place of beautiful and fruitful biodiversity.

This afternoon I’ve been visiting Hogshaw Rec & Nature Reserve with Jax Palmer and Save Hogshaw campaigners. High Peak Borough Council are proposing to sell off Hogshaw for housing development, including Hogshaw Rec, despite the Rec not being included in the Local Plan.

The Council held a consultation on their proposed sell off earlier this year. I know that lots of local people responded to the consultation opposing the sell off (including me!). We’re still waiting for the Council to publish the results of the consultation and for them to take a final decision on the future of the site.

I’m very concerned about the sheer scale of house building in the area and the impact on our infrastructure and public services. We’re seeing a knock on traffic impact all the way along the A6 corridor, with the house building not just in Buxton but in Dove Holes, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley and Whaley Bridge too.

That’s why along with my colleagues David Rutley (MP covering Disley) and William Wragg (MP for Hazel Grove) we’ve brought together High Peak Council, Derbyshire Council, Cheshire East Council and Stockport Council to form an A6 Taskforce to take a joined up approach to tackling traffic issues.

I’m not against new homes being built but they need to be in the right places, with the infrastructure in place to cope. I hope High Peak Council listen to local people and make the right decision on Hogshaw.
