🚴‍♂️ Caistor Ready for the Tour of Britain! 🚴‍♀️

The countdown is on until the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men passes through Caistor, and we'd like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers, community groups, businesses and residents who have worked so hard to showcase our town.

Their efforts have transformed Caistor and helped put our community firmly on the map for this national sporting event. From decorations and displays to organising activities and welcoming visitors, the enthusiasm and community spirit on show has been fantastic.

We hope everyone enjoys the day and joins us in giving the riders a warm Caistor welcome as they pass through.

Lloyds Tour of Britain fever has arrived in West Lindsey, with volunteers, businesses and residents across the district decorating high streets, shop fronts and windows ahead of the national cycle race travelling through Lincolnshire on Wednesday 2 September.

'Visit Lincolnshire' are offering FREE Bikes and Bunting to dress your premises as the Tour of Britain cycle race arrives in Caistor on 2nd September. Visit Lincolnshire are inviting local businesses to get involved and help create a fantastic festival atmosphere. Free green recycled display bikes, bunting and promotional posters are available to help you dress your shopfront, venue or business premises and show your support for this exciting event.
Green display bikes and bunting will be available to collect from the Cornhill Market in Lincoln from Tuesday 18th August to Thursday 27th August and can be reserved in advance through a simple booking process here - https://business.visitlincolnshire.com/resources/tour-of-britain-green-bike-requests/

The charity would like to remind residents that Age UK Lincolnshire will never cold-call you to sell products or services or ask for your bank details over the phone.

• Trust your instincts and end the call.
• Never share bank details, PINs or passwords.
• Contact the organisation directly using a trusted phone number.
• Speak to your bank immediately if you've shared financial information.

🌳 Millfields Reopen 🌳
We're pleased to let residents know that Millfields has now fully reopened following the recent emergency tree works.
The site has been cleared, all remaining logs and debris have been removed, and the area is once again available for everyone to enjoy.
Thank you for your patience while these essential safety works were carried out. 🌿😊

🌿 A46 Footpath Fully Accessible Again 🌿
Great news for residents and walkers! Vegetation clearance has now been completed along the footpath beside the A46, and the route is once again fully accessible.
A huge thank you to County Cllr Bean for helping to get this issue addressed, and to the Lincolnshire County Council volunteers who gave their time freely and worked hard to clear the route.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated - Thank you. 👏🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

🌳 Update: Millfields Play Area Willow Tree Works 🌳
Following the recent willow tree limb failure at Millfields Play Area, the specialist tree works have now been completed and the tree has been made safe.
We appreciate some residents may be disappointed to see such a significant reduction to what was a much-loved and beautiful tree. However, following further inspection, evidence of decay and rot was found within the tree and, after professional arboricultural advice, the safest and most appropriate course of action was to pollard it.
Whilst the tree now looks very different, pollarding is a recognised management technique for mature willow trees and will allow the tree to remain in situ in a safer, managed form.
We would like to express sincere thanks to Dyne Group, who responded immediately when the incident occurred, rearranging their workload at very short notice to attend site, clear the fallen tree from the access road and restore access for residents.
We would also like to thank George Coletti Tree Services, who accommodated the Council at short notice and carried out the specialist works to make the tree safe.
Both contractors have been fantastic in their response, professionalism and flexibility, and we are extremely grateful for their assistance.
Rather than seeing all of the material removed from site, the woodchip produced during the works has been recycled and put to good use on a separate Council project within Caistor Cemetery, helping to improve the areas beside the car park.
We will to re-open the park to the public once the remaining clearance has been done, hopefully by the end of this week.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential safety works have been carried out.

⚠️ Temporary Park Closure – Millfields Park ⚠️
Please be advised that Millfields Park is currently closed as a precaution due to a large fallen tree branch.
The branch has come down across the stream and is affecting nearby residents’ driveways. For everyone’s safety, access to the park is temporarily restricted while the situation is dealt with.
We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible and will provide an update once the park can be safely reopened.

Caistor Cemetery Historic Burials Update

Following detailed survey work, including ground-penetrating radar and mapping of the cemetery, we are now in a much clearer position regarding areas where historic burials are present.
The work carried out to date indicates that a limited number of reserved plots are affected and require further review before future burial use can be confirmed.
As a precaution:
• The sale and reservation of new burial plots remains paused
• Requests for interments relating to reserved plots continue to be considered on a case-by-case basis
• We will continue working with funeral directors to accommodate new interments wherever possible
We are currently in the process of contacting those plot holders with affected reserved graves directly.
We understand this may be concerning and would like to reassure residents that this matter is being handled with care, sensitivity, and respect.
