Today is Firefightersโ€™ Memorial Day, when we take the time to honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

It's also an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, commitment and courage of all firefighters who work hard to protect our communities every day.

Those working today will join colleagues across the UK and worldwide in a one minute silence at 12noon.

This morning the crew visited the stunning Bowood House & Gardens to conduct a familiarisation visit, which allows us as a station to understand the risks associated with the house and allows us to work with the on site teams if the worse was to ever happen. Thanks for the invite and allowing us to have a look around.

TURNOUT: 17.17 yesterday evening we were mobilised to a thatched roof fire in Potterne. At the height of the incident there were 10 fire engines plus support vehicles from across DWFireRescue. Crews worked extremely hard into the night to create fire breaks in the thatch and prevent fire spread, and prevent the whole roof from being destroyed. Further relief crews continued working through the night to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

This evening we were mobilised to an alarm activating with in a residential property in town.

Although this was a false alarm caused by cooking fumes, it gave FF Emery the chance to go out in charge of the fire engine for the first time. FF Emery has recently completed his Incident Commander Level 1 course deliverd by DWFireRescue comand team at the Fire Service College Events with other Firefighters from across the service.

Well done Luke, don't forget the cakes at drill!

Busy day so far for the station with 3 calls so far, here's a quick run down.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ 10.45 ๐Ÿ“Ÿ

Along with our colleagues from Chippenham Fire Station we were mobilised to a RTC on Oxford road. Thankfully the driver was released before our arrival and left in the care of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Crews made the scene safe.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ 11.43 ๐Ÿ“Ÿ

Shortly after arriving back at station we were mobilised alongside our colleagues from Devizes Fire Station to a domestic fire in Rowde. 4 breathing apparatus wearers were used to extinguish a fire and clear the property of smoke.

๐Ÿ“Ÿ 14.42 ๐Ÿ“Ÿ

And finally this afternoon we were mobilised to a vehicle fire on a farm at Mile Elm. 2 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jet's were used to extinguish the fire, due to the lack of water supply we requested a further fire engine which came from Chippenham to supply more water.

This evening at 21.04 we were mobilised to a fire in some woodland at the bottom of the bypass. Once in attendance we found a bonfire had been lit at the base of a tree and had started to spread to the tree. Thankfully a member of the public discovered the fire and we were able to extinguish it quickly.

Youths were seen in the area shortly before the fire started. This is the 2nd time this summer we have attended this location.

During this current warm and dry spell, fires can spread so quickly and cause devastating fires, if this could be your children please take time to educate them about the dangers of starting fires. DWFireRescue has been extremely busy dealing with challenging fires that often start from a small bonfire or bbq over the last few months.
