We wanted to share an update on Camborne Council Town Deal projects and where things currently stand.

Like many construction and regeneration projects across the country, the Town Deal projects have experienced significant cost increases since the original budgets were set. Over recent months, a huge amount of work has taken place behind the scenes to review designs, costs and priorities to make sure the projects can still move forward and deliver long-term benefits for Camborne.

This process, known as value engineering, means carefully reviewing elements of projects to reduce costs while protecting the most important outcomes for the community.

Awenva has been the most challenging due to the scale and complexity of restoring historic grade 2 listed buildings, which are located in a Conservation Area and situated in a World Heritage Site, which has resulted in the costs increasing. To help ensure the project can continue, some funding has been reallocated from the Park Gerry project, alongside construction changes to help reduce overall costs.

As a result, Park Gerry will now move forward with the skatepark, football pitch, paths and essential groundworks. Unfortunately, this means the car park, MUGA and pavilion have had to be placed on hold for now. We know this will be disappointing for some residents, however we remain fully committed to seeking additional funding opportunities to deliver these elements in the future.

As part of the preparations for the project, ground investigation works will be taking place at Park Gerry over the next 4-6 weeks. These surveys are an important step in helping the team finalise designs and prepare the site for construction. We currently anticipate the main project works starting in October 2026, with completion expected in March 2027.

At Holman Gardens, tender applications have now closed and been reviewed. The Council is currently in the process of appointing a new contractor, which we hope to announce within the next couple of weeks. Subject to final arrangements, we anticipate works recommencing on site in mid to late July. In the meantime, our Amenities Team will continue carrying out maintenance and w**d removal to help keep the site tidy while preparations for the next phase of the project are completed.

We know people are passionate about these projects and we appreciate the community’s patience while we work through these challenges. Despite the changes, these projects continue to represent major investment into Camborne’s future, and we remain focused on delivering improvements the town can benefit from for years to come.

Mayor of Camborne, Councillor Chapman said, "These projects represent a once-in-a-generation investment in Camborne. While difficult decisions have been necessary to respond to rising costs, we are now in a position where all three projects can move forward. It's an exciting time, with visible progress already taking shape at Awenva and significant milestones ahead for both Park Gerry and Holman Gardens."

In case you didn't see yesterday's announcements, just a reminder that today's Green Fest event has been postponed due to unsafe weather conditions. ⚠️

Many thanks to Kernow Weather Team for their advice and support over the last few days, enabling us to make the tough but necessary call yesterday.

The event has been postponed until Saturday September 12th and all the artists have now confirmed that they will be performing on this rearranged date in hopefully, calmer, sunnier conditions. See you in September. πŸ’š

⚠️ GREEN FEST 2026 IS POSTPONED ⚠️

All at Camborne Town Council are very disappointed to announce that, due to forecasts predicting wind gusts to over 50mph on Saturday, we have had to postpone Green Fest until September.

Cllr Chapman, The Mayor of Camborne added ...

"While we are very disappointed to have had to take this decision, we hope all will understand that the safety of everyone involved must always come first at our events. We are delighted that a new date has been identified, allowing Green Fest to take place later in the year, hopefully in more favourable conditions."
