🏠🚲🏢 The Greater Cambridge Local Plan will help guide future homes, jobs and infrastructure across Greater Cambridge over the next 20 years.

The proposed submission version is now available for comment before it is submitted to Government for examination. It’s important to note that suggestions for additional development sites are not being considered as part of this consultation.

🗣️ Previous consultations helped shape the proposed submission version of the Greater Cambridge Local Plan. More than 1,280 individuals and organisations submitted over 8,400 comments during the last consultation alone.

The current consultation is an opportunity to comment on the final proposed version before it is submitted for examination by an independent Planning Inspector.

A Local Plan helps shape where new homes, jobs and community facilities are delivered, and how communities grow over time.

🏗️🚆 Ever wondered how major infrastructure projects are approved?

Big projects don’t always follow the usual planning process. Two important routes are Development Consent Orders (DCOs) and Transport and Works Act Orders (TWAOs).

DCOs are used for nationally significant infrastructure, while TWAOs often support major transport schemes such as railways and guided busways.

Both give communities opportunities to review proposals, share their views and take part in the process.

Across Greater Cambridge, these routes have been used for projects including the A14, A428 improvements and Cambridge South Station, with East West Rail project proposed to use the DCO process.

❓Why are we consulting on the Local Plan again?

The proposed submission version of the Greater Cambridge Local Plan has been updated following earlier consultations and thousands of comments from residents, businesses and organisations.

We are now consulting on the version that is intended to be submitted to Government for independent examination.

A Local Plan sets out how an area will grow and develop in the future.

Comments should focus on whether the Plan is justified by evidence, deliverable and legally compliant.

📣 The consultation on the proposed submission version of the Greater Cambridge Local Plan is now open.

Join our online webinar tomorrow (Tuesday 4 August), from 5pm to 6pm to hear more about this important stage of the process and how you can get involved.

This is the final opportunity to comment before the Plan is submitted to Government for examination by an independent Planning Inspector. A Local Plan is a document that guides where homes, jobs, services and infrastructure are built, and how places develop over the coming years.

Unlike previous consultations, comments should focus on whether the Plan:
✅Is supported by evidence
✅Can be delivered effectively
✅Meets national planning requirements

New site proposals are not being considered at this stage.
