On Saturday afternoon (25th April 2026) our crew were called to a shipping container fire🔥in Eynesbury.

On arrival, we found the container well alight and immediately got to work using a hose reel to extinguish 💦 the fire and damp down remaining hot spots.

Thanks to the quick actions of the crew, the fire was brought under control safely.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

For this evenings drill night, our crew from Gamlingay Fire Station have carried out a familiarisation visit at Cambridge City Airport as part of our ongoing preparedness for emergencies.

Understanding the layout, risks, and operational procedures of key sites in our wider area is essential to ensuring we can respond effectively and safely should we ever be called to assist. Visits like this strengthen our situational awareness and support the continued development of our firefighters.

A huge thank you to Cambridge Airport Fire Service for taking the time to show us around and share their expertise ✈️🚒

Please be our eyes and ears. Two of our stations have been broken into this week, so we're asking you, our local residents, to help us look out for any suspicious activity around our station.

Chatteris and Gamlingay fire stations were broken into in the early hours of Monday morning and Tuesday evening respectively. At Chatteris, life-saving cutting equipment used at road traffic collisions and other rescues was stolen.

Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren said: “Break-ins to fire stations are happening across the country and this week we have been victims twice. We are asking for local residents to please help be our eyes and ears, to report any suspicious activity and make a note if possible of any vehicle details including registration number, as well as descriptions of any individuals involved.

"Please also save any CCTV or Ring doorbell footage if it has captured any suspicious activity. The incidents have happened when it’s dark, in the evening and early morning. Entry has been forced, so if you hear a noise coming from one of our stations, please do just look and check to see if it is our firefighters, don’t assume it is. This support by our local communities would be greatly appreciated.”

Anyone with information is asked to visit the Cambridgeshire Constabulary website or call 101 and quote the reference 35/21532/26.

This morning our crew at Gamlingay Fire Station carried out risk‑critical Breathing Apparatus training at St Neots Fire Station as part of our Phase 2 firefighters’ ongoing pathway to becoming competent Firefighters 👨‍🚒 🔥 .

These sessions are vital for building confidence, strengthening core skills, and ensuring our developing firefighters are fully prepared for the demands of operational work. Continuous training like this helps us maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism for the community we serve.

A big well done to everyone involved for their hard work and commitment to progressing through their development.
