A wave of school student revolts have unleashed a radicalisation and politicisation across France.
slogans about cleaning toilets are heard next to slogans about freeing Palestine. The government budget proposes the cutting of hospitals, wages, pensions and schools. The response of the students and workers has begun to broaden beyond one against austerity to taking an anti fascist focus too.
Why is it happening now and how might the movement grow? This is the topic of our meeting this week.

Why do women’s sports, from the world stage to local level, get different treatment to men’s sports? Women’s sport at every level receives far less funding and much less attention from the government, councils and the media. Sexism in sport is a product of wider issues in society, which is why it’s not enough to just argue for an equal amount of cash or media coverage.
On Thursday, Miça Evans,
a professional rugby player will talk about how discrimination in sport impacts on women and girls and why it is a structural part of the capitalist society we live in.

Marxists are sometimes accused of dismissing religion as a tool used by our rulers to keep us passive and submissive. But this is not what Marx argued. Religion is not just dogma, but a way people try to make sense of their experiences. So revolutionary socialists oppose banning religion. Lenin wrote, “Everyone must be absolutely free to profess any religion they please.”
But socialists are not neutral. This week we will talk more about Religion in the context of oppression, alienation, capitalism and the struggle for liberation

*Understanding the new fascism: Tommy Robinson and the far right today*

Tommy Robinson or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been the key figure in Britain’s fascist movement since the emergence of the English Defence League (EDL) in 2009. He belongs to a long lineage of British fascist leaders differing from them in his success inachieving levels of street mobilisation of which earlier fascist leaders only dreamt.
Yet, Robinson also differs from his predecessors in other important ways.
He has distanced himself from the most discredited elements of British fascism’s ideological tradition: overt admiration for Hi**er, N**i symbolism and explicit antisemitic conspiracism. In their place, Robinson has reoriented the movement around a radicalised and conspiratorial rearticulation of the Islamophobia long embedded within British political discourse.
The central question for anti racists confronting this movement is Can Robinsons project be disrupted in practice, before extra-parliamentary reaction hardens into a durable feature of British political life?
