The SEED Project

The SEED Project *SEED IS CLOSING* Empowering Zimbabwean communities to meet their own needs and realise their dreams.

The SEED Project is an opportunity to review how best to address poverty in a sustainable way. We bring together all the available resources for a more determined attack on poverty, human degradation and disempowerment. The SEED Project began in Zimbabwe, with a view to expansion into Southern Africa. We work primarily in communities where unemployment, ill health and hunger are high, and opportun

ities, hope and education are low. The focus is empowerment rather than aid, and the aim is for the long-term sustainability of these communities (i.e. reducing dependency on national and/or international donors). The SEED Project aims to partner with local churches and other groups to identify needs and dreams within communities and then to facilitate the meeting of those needs and the realisation of those dreams. The SEED Project aims to be true to each local context, and work with existing people, skills and resources in order to increase ownership of results and sustainability of future work. The SEED Project will cooperate with, partner with and exchange ideas with other local, national and international organisations as they work towards the realisation of common goals.

SEED is working with local villages in Zimbabwe to help empower and develop trust within their community.

Community philanthropy suggests all communities have local resources, which can develop the most powerful force of all: trust. SEED is working hard to uphold community philanthropy with their work across Zimbabwe.

Granny Prisca is a 79-year-old widow who cares for 3 children. SEED gave her basic business and agriculture skills to help provide for them.

She has been able to expand her plots using the skills she gained and now everyone in the surrounding villages wants to learn from her example.

Constance used to be sent away during the October-April rainy season to her parents’ village to work. She was often unable to pay the village school fees for her children.

SEED taught Constance how to make polish and household cleansers, which she sells in the market. Now her family stays together throughout the year and is able to send her children to a better school in the city!
