Moon and Back Foster Care

This week we have been out visiting families who are curious about fostering.

Often families are overwhelmed with which service to approach, several told us this week that they chose the first organisation that they found online.

We encourage families to find one that offers what they need. Talk to several organisations and find out what each one does, Sometimes the people from an organisation are people you never get to meet or work with past those initial calls.

At to The Moon and Back Foster Care you get to know the whole team, from our efficient admin team, those sorting our financial payments, the whole social work team and of course the owners.

If being part of a service where you are known by name, you know if you call at 3am it will be a voice you know and just as important someone who knows you and your young people.

We build strong relationships and build in a sense of safety for all. We encourage families to get to know each other. Peer support can provide opportunities to share handy tips, and someone to share the highs and lows. Formal group meetings are offered but also those informal get together are just as important.

Step into the Community Hive at Cambridge Pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Open from 1–5.30pm on Jesus Green, the Community Hive is a space to listen, learn, take part and connect with the people and organisations supporting our LGBTQIA+ community.

With the stage hosted by the fabulous Queenie B, the Community Hive will include singalong moments, children’s story time, folk music, accessibility discussion, community speakers, and our much-loved dog show with drag artists Knuckle Sandwich and Will Power.

Comedy will then continue in the Community Hive from 5.30–7.30pm, bringing laughter into the early evening.

What an end to the week for Moon and Back Foster care, with our two co-founders Alison Kindred Byrne and Angela Hunt at the National Business Woman's Awards 2026 as finalists for Service Excellence category.⭐️

To The Moon and Back Foster care are proud to be a female owned and managed organisation providing an inclusive space for individuals, families, young people who haven't always been given opportunities and privilege.

This event was full of room inspirational woman owning and leading in business. There was so much support in the room of each other.

We would like to take this time to thank all those who provide that work and care at To The Moon and Back Foster care- that means the organisation is recognised as outstanding and providing excellent front line care. 👏👏👏👏

🏳️‍🌈 This week the team have been preparing for Cambridge Pride 13th June 2026, it is one of our favourite events of the year.

We are talking about myth busting in Fostering.

You may be curious about fostering but wondering "can I foster if I am part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Our view is YES,

Some of the strongest families, be it single, or a couple are built from love, courage and being authentically you.

Fostering is like no other career. It is a process starting with the first small step in saying could I do this?

We want you to experience having honest information about the role, opportunities to talk about fostering with us as a team and with families who are already fostering.

That can take time, to talk, feel heard and ask questions. We are clear there are no silly questions

The assessment process is a journey of learning, growing, and you will feeling supported every step of the way by our team.

No question is too small, no concern goes unheard.

Because fostering starts with feeling understood.

New families need to build trust with a service, and know they are not a number on a conveyer being pushed through to fill beds.

We see fostering as more than providing an empty room to fill, it is about getting to know families, that helps us match well and provide bespoke support.

Short breaks fostering is about so much more than a few days of care.

It’s about building relationships, creating moments of safety, and becoming one of the trusted adults in a young person’s life.

For young people, it means having another safe space…
another person who listens…
another home where they feel welcomed and understood.

For full-time foster carers, it provides breathing space —
time to recharge, reflect, and continue to offer the best care possible.

And for those offering short breaks, it’s about being part of a child’s wider support network —
showing them that there are many people who care.

🌟 Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that make the biggest difference.🌟
