Our newly installed planters in front of the Memorial Hall. Recently there has been several near misses with drivers coming in one of the entrances and driving very fast in front of the Memorial Hall therefore we have had to stop this.

On Monday 5th October Great Shelford Parish Council considered its response to the consultation organised by the proponents of the proposed Cambridge South development.

The parish council agreed that it is strongly opposed to this proposed development. We consider it to be an existential threat to our village and the way of life of its residents. It is also a threat to Cambridge and its character as a small, compact city surrounded by individual necklace villages, each with their individual character. The proposed development will triple the size of Great Shelford, eliminate all the greenbelt on the north west of the village and destroy an area our residents enjoy frequently for walking, cycling and horse riding. It will also eliminate arable land at a time when growing our own food is becoming increasingly important.

Based on the many conversations we have had recently, we believe that this position will be strongly supported by our fellow residents.

We believe that this proposed development is not allowed under current planning rules, but that may not be sufficient to prevent the development. We urge our residents to respond to the consultation at the following website. A large volume of responses will be required to send a strong message to the developers and land owners.

Some residents have asked us if there will be an action group formed to campaign against the proposed development. The parish council would be very supportive if such a group were to be formed, but to have the most effect we believe it should be at arms-length from the parish council. This will provide greater energy and agility and will also demonstrate that it has wide-spread support within the general population. The parish council would be happy to put like-minded people in touch with each other for those who are interested in participating.

Anti‑Social Behaviour at the Recreation Ground

We’re very sad to report a number of incidents at the recreation ground this week.

The disabled and accessible toilet was pushed over and put out of use, several bins were removed and kicked across the grass, and the stakes holding the temporary fencing around the newly re‑grassed area were pulled out.

We also had an incident where a vehicle entered the car park and damaged the newly repaired wall.

All of this was captured on CCTV, and the footage has now been passed to the police.

“The Parish Council has been made aware of a major potential housing development on a site between Cambridge Road and the M11, referred to as 'Cambridge South'. The developers are looking to lodge a planning application in 2027. We are firmly opposed to this development in the green belt and wish to let residents know what is happening . We have received the following message from the developers".

Cambridge South Public Consultation

Pigeon and Lands Improvement are inviting local residents, businesses and stakeholders to help shape their emerging proposals for Cambridge South, a new mixed-use community close to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The proposals are at an early stage and feedback will help inform the evolving masterplan.

They are undertaking a first round public consultation which will run from September 21st until midnight on November 1st . The developers will be meeting Great Shelford Parish Council and other local stakeholders including residents and elected councillors to understand their views on the vision for the site.

On September 21st residents will receive a flyer containing information about the consultation, events and website where a public survey is hosted to gather feedback. The website can be accessed from Monday 21 st September at www.cambridgesouth.co.uk

Great Shelford Village Market

We are having some work done at the Memorial Hall so it is closed for the next couple of weeks, but the Great Shelford Country Market is still running! You will find everyone in the Scout Hall at the back of the hall on Wednesday 9am-11.30am.

The Parish Council have a number of bikes and scooters in lost property which have been there for a long time ( and we have posted about multiple times). If you have lost one, and think we might have it, please DM us with a description. We’d love to reunite them! We will keep hold of them for one more week until Friday 18th September after which they will be donated to charity. 🚲🛴

If you are looking for Pimp My Fish tonight, they are here, but they have had to park around by the recreation ground because of the groundwork being done outside the hall.

Please note that tomorrow's Great Shelford Country Market will be held at the Sports Pavilion on the recreation ground rather than the Memorial Hall due to some works being done at the hall. 9am-11.30am. Thank you.
