Today we’re thanking PC Nick Southern, one of our safer schools officers, after some lovely feedback from students 🤩

His presence initially caused concern, but his approachability and offers of support soon won over the young people at the Cambridge school.

One student said: “I haven't grown up liking the police but because I've seen Nick around school and I've approached him a couple of times to say hi it has changed that opinion. I feel comfortable to go up and talk to Nick at school and tell him my issues; it's just really nice to have him about.”

The student now sees Nick every week for a check in and this has had a ripple effect, with other students following suit. Many parents have also thanked us for facilitating those conversations 👍 🚔

Our latest podcast brings you the deeply moving story of Mohammed Algasim, a promising young student whose life was tragically cut short in a senseless knife attack in Cambridge. Mohammed, just 20, was known for his devotion to his family, his charisma and courage. After a day out in London, he was enjoying a summer evening with friends when the most appalling of crimes happened.
We hear from DCI Dale Mepstead, the senior investigator, as she reflects on this profoundly sad case and the impact it has had on the community.

Neighbourhood teams were out in force last week tackling motorbike and moped thefts, as well as anti-social riding, responding to concerns raised by the community. 🏍️

They engaged with numerous teenagers and riders, seized illegal e-scooters, e-bikes and motorbikes and covered hotspots across the city.

🛵 Did you know? It can take just seconds for a thief to steal a moped or motorbike.

Want to make sure it doesn’t happen to you?

Thank you to everyone who joined our Cambridge Community Policing meeting last night.

We heard updates on work to address ASB in Fitzroy Street, including seizing illegal eScooters and eBikes. Also our continued work to tackle knife crime with early intervention with young people at risk, supporting families and working closely with schools and partners to prevent harm and reduce serious violence.

Our priorities for the next three months will be tackling two‑wheeled enabled crime and anti‑social behaviour, alongside knife crime.

📅 Our next online community meeting takes place on 7 September, 7–8pm.

Chas Corrigan said he carried a knife to “scare” others.

That decision led to murder, a life sentence, and a family destroyed forever.

‘Wrong place, wrong time’ – our latest podcast follows the heartbreaking murder of student Mohammed Algasim.
He was only 20 years-old, a ‘dutiful son, loving brother’ and the ‘leader of his family in spirit’. He was staying in Cambridge to study English and following a day with friends in London had returned to the city with friends.
Spending a summer evening talking to friends, sitting on a wall in the city centre, his life was taken in a random knife attack.
In our latest podcast we talk to the senior investigating officer, DCI Dale Mepstead, about this tragic case.
