Something To Look Forward To

Something To Look Forward To A charity website where people with cancer and their families can access a variety of donated gifts. Having cancer can be expensive and is a costly illness.
(1)

We provide donated gifts, experiences and essentials to people affected by cancer and their families/Carers. From the moment you are diagnosed with cancer your life is taken over by hospital visits, treatments, tests, uncertainty, and often, financial worries. It is important for cancer patients and their families to have some positive time away from the disease and the nightmare that they are liv

ing through and have some respite and the chance to focus on relationships, create positive memories and have some quality fun time together. The charity ‘Something To Look Forward To’ benefits people with cancer and their carers’ and/or families who have been financially burdened as a result of their diagnosis. It can take a toll on health, emotions, time, relationships and finances. The aim of ‘Something to Look Forward to’ is: “To promote the well-being, relieve the stress and in particular aid the recuperation of those who are experiencing the effects of cancer and its treatment, together with their carer’s and/or families. In particular by the provision of positive individual and/or family experiences”

The objective is to provide a comprehensive website where cancer sufferers and their families can access a variety of free offers donated by companies. These could include such things as restaurant meals; hotel stays; theatre tickets; beauty treatments; tickets for sports events; tickets for theme parks….the list is endless.

✨ Behind the scenes at STLFT ✨

While our service is delivered remotely, there’s always so much happening behind the scenes at STLFT. Building meaningful relationships with our donors, supporters and partners is at the heart of what we do and over the past few weeks we’ve been lucky enough to spend time with some truly wonderful people and organisations who help make respite experiences possible for families affected by cancer. 💛

In April and May we have:

⚽ Attended Cambridge United’s Business Club at Duxford, where it was fantastic to connect and network with inspiring people from a wide range of industries. It’s such an exciting time for the club at the moment and we’re grateful to be part of the conversation.

📚 Joined the Cambridge Literary Festival Launch Party a long standing partnership we value enormously. We’re so thankful for the tickets they continue to donate to our cancer community.

🍽️ Visited The Dorchester and had the opportunity to see the incredible private dining room at Alain Ducasse, where one of our families will soon enjoy a truly once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. We already can’t wait to return.

🥂 Followed by a trip to The Ritz to personally thank them for donating another Champagne Afternoon Tea experience for our community… and yes, the toilets really are the best there are!

We’re looking forward to sharing more over the coming months, with lots of exciting meetings and opportunities ahead as we continue working to secure more special respite experiences for those affected by cancer. 💫

We’re proud to shine a light on one of our incredible partners, Love Struck 💛

Each month, Love Struck generously donate smoothie, shake and soup bundle vouchers to support our cancer community — providing not just nutrition, but moments of comfort and care.

The impact of this support is truly powerful. One recipient shared how, during a time when they felt “lonely and invisible… like life is in limbo,” receiving a Love Struck voucher made them feel “cared about” and reminded them they had “not been forgotten.”

From the excitement of choosing items, to the quick delivery and “delicious” first smoothie, it’s clear these small acts of kindness make a big difference. As they put it: “This has really cheered me up and I get the benefit of the nutrition.”

Thank you, Love Struck, for helping us bring something to look forward to for people facing some of life’s toughest challenges.

It's our lottery's birthday week! 🎉

Cambridgeshire Community Lottery turns 1 tomorrow - and what better way to mark it than with some of the brilliant causes that have made the last twelve months so special.

We asked some of our lottery's causes to help us celebrate - (l-r) Something To Look Forward To, 3 Pillars Feeding The Homeless & Supporting the Community, Papworth Trust, Disability Huntingdonshire (DISH), St John the Baptist, Church End, Parson Drove, our very own CEO representing the Fund for Cambridgeshire (managed by our Foundation) and Ramsey Neighbourhoods Trust.

£20,000 - that's how much the lottery has raised for causes across Cambridgeshire in just its first year.

There's more to come to celebrate the lottery's first birthday... Keep an eye out for a special competition launching tomorrow 👀

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at for their incredible support of Something To Look Forward To 💛

Through our partnership, they have helped us connect with owners of some truly stunning properties across the UK, resulting in a growing number of donated respite breaks for people affected by cancer and their families/carers.

From peaceful countryside escapes to beautiful coastal retreats, these experiences provide much-needed moments of respite, rest and positive memory making during emotionally and financially difficult times.

We’re so grateful to Finest Retreats and the generous property owners who are helping create something truly meaningful for our beneficiaries.

Today, on International Day of Families, we’re recognising that cancer doesn’t just affect one person — it impacts the whole family 💛

When someone is diagnosed, roles shift. Partners often become carers, children face uncertainty and everyday family life can feel very different. For many, there’s also the emotional challenge of trying to reconnect with who they were before cancer.

One dad we supported shared how he had been “struggling to recapture how I was pre-cancer” while facing the possibility of further treatment ahead.

Thanks to the generosity of The Heights of Abraham, his family were able to spend precious time together — something he described as “especially important to have some memory making with the children.”

He also spoke about the deeper impact of this kindness — how “it’s so heartening to know that strangers care” and how that support gives him strength during an incredibly difficult time.

These moments of connection matter. They help families rebuild, create positive memories and remind them they’re not alone.

A huge thank you to The Heights of Abraham for helping families spend meaningful time together and giving them ‘Something To Look Forward To’ 💫

✨ Please join us in welcoming Fran to the ‘Something To Look Forward To’ team ✨

Fran joined STLFT in April as our new Service & Office Manager, and many of you may already have spoken with her as she supports our cancer community by assessing applications and coordinating gifts and experiences. 💛

Fran brings a wealth of experience across the charity, public and private sectors, with a background in governance, administration and service coordination. She is incredibly organised, thoughtful and approachable and is passionate about making sure every interaction reflects the kindness, dignity and care at the heart of STLFT.

Having seen first-hand the impact thoughtful support can make to people affected by cancer, Fran is deeply committed to helping our community have something special to look forward to during difficult times.

We are absolutely delighted to have her as part of the team. 💫
