✨ Planning Permission Granted for a New Contemporary Barn-Style Home ✨

We secured planning permission for a new contemporary barn-style home in Marden, Kent.

The original barn had fallen into disrepair and was no longer habitable. Our clients saw great potential in this site, envisioning a contemporary twist on the traditional barn style family home.

The design blends zinc with natural ragstone, softening the modern aesthetic while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape and rural charm. Thoughtfully positioned glazing ensures the interior is flooded with natural light, creating a bright and welcoming living space.

There are many reasons why we love the work that we do, but it is a particularly great day when we receive a letter from the council to say they have hashtag planning permission for a scheme we have designed βœ…

This week we have received planning approval for three applications submitted to three different local authorities; Canterbury, Swale and Ashford. Two applications have also been granted Listed Building Consent.

Here is a brief summary of the proposed works:

1. Enclosing, converting and extending the barn for ancillary use. Internal and external alterations to main house, annexe and existing conservatory. Installation of solar panels and er****on of greenhouse.

2. Two storey side extension, part two storey rear extension, and single storey rear extension with first floor terrace.

3. A timber-framed orangery style extension.

Our clients are excited to progress to the technical design stage, and we look forward to sharing more about these projects.

Well done Team JCA πŸ’š

We received Planning & Listed Building Consent for a new pool & pool house at our clients beautiful Grade II* listed home.

Our client’s property is a typical example of a Wealden Hall House; a type of medieval close studded timber-framed house only found in the South East of England. The hall house is characterised by its half-timbered walls, steep roof, and central hall, whilst the architectural attribute of the Wealden Hall house provides a wealth of original Wealden Timber framing. The landscaped gardens provide a beautiful, secluded setting.

Maintaining the historic nature of the building was our top priority, as the house is Grade II* listed and sits within a Conservation Area. Careful consideration of the impact of a swimming pool on the building’s heritage value was required to ensure that the pool did not negatively impact the setting of the listed building and preserve its long and rich history.

The result is an attractive pool & pool house, which fits perfectly in line with the historic house.

We have received Planning and Listed Building Consent for a single storey extension to our clients beautiful Grade II* Listed house.

The property sits within a Conservation Area and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it was important the design and quality responded positively to the style and character of the existing context.

The proposed single storey extension is nestled within the L-shaped junction of the North West and South West elevations. A light weight design providing readability of the historic footprint whilst remaining subservient to the principle house.

The extension offers a clear contrast between old and new with its contemporary aesthetic✨

There are a lot of misconceptions about what kind of land is suitable to build a house on🏑

Finding a plot is the first hurdle, but once you’ve found a site it can be difficult to know where to begin and what questions to ask in regards to gaining planning permission.

We can assist you with exploring the best approach and take your project from concept design through to construction.

We have received Planning & Listed Building Consent for extensions and alterations to this fantastic Grade II listed home in Kent.

Originally built in the 18th century, the building has been altered in more ways than one over the years.

In the process, the house had lost fluidity between rooms, and a disconnect from the unused barn. Our client wanted to improve this and safeguard its heritage for future generations.

Our design includes:

πŸ”Ή Timber framed orangery extension;
πŸ”Ή Internal alterations to the ground floor layout;
πŸ”Ή Relocation of the existing kitchen;
πŸ”Ή Southwest extension to form new utility room;
πŸ”Ή New brick boundary wall
πŸ”Ή Conversion of existing unused barn, with solar slates

Solar slates are discreet solar panels which give the appearance of a natural slate tile while generating solar electricity. They are a fantastic energy and cost saving addition for listed buildings and buildings within conservation areas and AONBs. No additional planning permission is necessary.

Our team and our client is very impressed with the CGI images we have received from Visual Trick.

We are excited to see this project through the specification, tendering and construction process.

Thinking of converting your outbuildings?

Work has started on site to convert a curtilage listed, flint and timber framed barn to office and guest accommodation.

We received Planning and Listed Building Consent for internal and external alterations to an existing outbuilding within the grounds of a Grade II listed house.

Our proposal includes repairs to the existing historic fabric, replacement windows, thermal upgrading, and connection to utilities. Externally, permission has been sought for placement of an air source heat pump and alterations to the boundary fencing.

We look forward to sharing some site progress photos when the weather improves 🌧️
