Today we celebrate the Nativity of John the Baptist. The Gospel of Luke states that John was born six months before Jesus, making this day one of the few Saints Days that commemorates a birth rather than a death. ✝

Here at St Augustines Abbey, in our 11th century South Transept, you will find a Chapel and Altar dedicated to St John the Baptist. Why not come on over to the Abbey and explore the beautiful site for yourselves. 😍

We’re back with another bloopers reel from the past month. Somehow the chaos behind the scenes is just as fun as the final cut. 🎬😂

Creating entertaining content for you is one of our favourite parts of what we do, and honestly, the outtakes might be the real stars here.

Today is Suss*x Day and marks a feast day of Richard of Chichester, the Patron Saint of Suss*x. 🕯

Richard was born in 1197 and orphaned at a young age. He gained a doctorate in canon law and became the Chancellor to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Richard was further promoted to Bishop of Chichester in 1244; where he denounced corruption, lived frugally and was devoted to helping the poor. Richard died on the 3rd April 1253; a day also celebrated as his Feast Day. ✝

Today is the commemoration of Richard of Chichester to avoid clashes with Easter and to celebrate the translation of his relics to Chichester Cathedral in 1276.

Within the Crypt at St Augustines Abbey, you will find an apsidal chapel which was dedicated to Richard of Chichester during the second part of the thirteenth century. 🥰

Cherry season is upon us! 🍒

We cherry-ish this wonderful fruit very much. Hence why we have a great selection of cherry based food and drink at the Abbey.

(Other flavours are also available 😁)

Next time you visit the Abbey, try some of our free wine and mead tasters.
Thank you cherry much!
