Happy International Dog Day! 🐕

From carved stone to stained glass, dogs have been part of Canterbury Cathedral’s story for centuries.

We’ve found a few of our favourites, but there are plenty more waiting to be discovered. Better still, you can bring your own well-behaved four-legged friend to help with the search, as dogs are welcome in the Cathedral and grounds. 🐾🐕‍

Don’t miss our final Open Garden event this summer where you can see private Cathedral gardens usually closed to the public - all included with your Cathedral admission ticket*.

This week we’re at The Deanery Garden - plus we have our plant sale too along with tea and cake!

Our gardeners will be on hand throughout the day to share their expertise, offer tips, and answer any questions you may have about the plants 🌷 and heritage of the garden.

No booking required - just drop in and discover!

Entrance to the Deanery Garden is via the gate opposite the Monastic Ruins (please ask a staff member or volunteer if you require step-free access or need help find the entrance)

The way the morning sunlight illuminates St. Anselm’s Chapel is breathtaking. Pause for a moment, breathe, and take it all in.

This remarkable window is the Cathedral’s only example of a 14th-century Decorated Gothic window.

The original glass was lost during the Second World War. In 1959, it was replaced with the vibrant glass we see today by renowned York stained glass designer Harry Stammers, whose richly coloured work continues to fill the chapel with light and colour.
