A Disappointing Start for a New Community Project at the Nature Reserve

Capel St Mary Parish Council is extremely disappointed to report that, almost immediately after the installation of new posts for our information board at the site, they have been vandalised.

The work to improve and provide information at this site was carried out by volunteers, giving their time and effort for the benefit of our local community. It is therefore particularly disappointing to see the new signs damaged so soon after they were installed.

The Parish Council has only recently taken over the management of the site, with the aim of maintaining and improving it for everyone to enjoy. Sadly, it is incredibly disheartening that we are already having to deal with vandalism.

We would ask everyone in the community to respect the time, effort and resources that go into maintaining our local spaces. These improvements are made for the benefit of us all, and vandalism ultimately costs time and money that could otherwise be spent on further improvements.

If anyone witnessed the vandalism or has any information about what happened, we would encourage them to report it to the Parish Council.

We hope that, working together as a community, we can ensure this site remains a welcoming and well-maintained place for everyone to enjoy.

We were deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of young Noah.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Noah’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time. We hope they can find some comfort in knowing that they are in the thoughts of so many people within our community and beyond.

We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who rallied together during the search for Noah. The incredible response, kindness and determination shown by so many people, coming together as one community, was truly moving.

At such a heartbreaking time, it is a reminder of the strength, compassion and care that exists within our community.

Our deepest condolences to Noah’s family and friends.

Body found in search for Noah Woods

Police dive teams this afternoon have sadly recovered the body of a child from Decoy Pond in Brantham (Wednesday 16 September).

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Noah Woods have been informed of this development. The discovery of the body is currently being treated as not suspicious but unexplained. The coroner will be informed of this development.

Officers have carried out multiple enquiries, including the deployment of specialist search officers and dog units and received support from various agencies with around 1300 members of the public also supporting the search.

Superintendent Tom Pearse said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with Noah’s family and all who knew him.

“Since Noah was reported as missing vast number of our officers and staff have been deployed in numerous functions in the search for Noah and support for his family. We’ve been supported by Norfolk Constabulary, the Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police, the National Police Air Service, Suffolk HART, SULSAR, Environment Agency, HM Coastguard, Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of public support, people putting on their boots and helping us search.

“As a parent myself, I completely understand why people would want to help and such a response is one that typifies the strong sense of community and the heart-warming nature of Suffolk people that make the county such a special place. I am sure you appreciate the family now need time, space and privacy and I thank you for your understanding in this.”

The Capel St Mary Parish Council currently has 3 vacancies!

Parish Councillors are local volunteers who represent the views of residents and work to improve the local area. They attend council meetings, raise community concerns, and help make decisions on local services, facilities, planning matters, and community projects.

Parish Councillors work with local authorities and organisations, manage local budgets, and act as a link between residents and decision makers.

You do not need any special qualifications or experience just an interest in your community and a willingness to get involved.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 19:30hrs in the library, we do not meet in August.

🌺 If you see us out watering the floral display at the shopping precinct during the hosepipe ban, please be assured we are not breaking the rules and are exempt 🌺

‘Under Anglian Water’s Temporary Use Ban, temporary garden or flower displays are exempt from the hosepipe restrictions. That exemption was specifically intended to allow the watering of seasonal public displays such as hanging baskets, tubs and bedding displays.’

🌸🌼 Capel St Mary Parish Council Floral Display 2026 🌼🌸
This year marks a very special milestone as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Capel St Mary Parish Council Floral Display, and what a display it is! Many would agree that this is our best display yet, bringing a wonderful splash of colour and pride to our village.
A huge thank you goes to the Capel St Mary Allotments Association for creating such a stunning display for everyone to enjoy. Their hard work, dedication, and creativity have truly made this year's floral arrangements something special.
Special thanks must also go to David Gulliver, whose care and commitment have helped keep the displays looking so vibrant and beautifully maintained throughout the recent hot weather.
