Respect for the War Memorial at St Edeyrn’s Church
From Old St Mellons Community Council:
As we approach VJ Day, we want to share an important message from Phil Jones, Church Warden at St Edeyrn’s Church.
St Edeyrn’s is a much-loved 11th century church, and the churchyard is cared for through the combined efforts of the Community Council (grass cutting) and dedicated church members. It’s a peaceful place for everyone in the community to enjoy, and we’re proud to help keep it that way.

From Phil Jones, St Edeyrn’s Church Warden:
Many people walk through the churchyard enjoying the tranquillity it offers. To enhance the grounds, members of the church place pots of plants around the church doorways, including at the War Memorial alongside poppy wreaths.
Sadly, some of these plants have recently been taken, including those placed at the War Memorial in the days leading up to VJ Day. Whoever removed them, please return them so the memorial can be restored for this important occasion.
The plants have been replaced before, only to be taken again. This cannot continue — please respect the memorial and the wider churchyard so that all can enjoy this place of reflection and remembrance.

We hope everyone will join us in looking after the churchyard and the War Memorial — places of history, respect, and pride for the whole community.
