❤️ Cadets Save Lives ❤️

First aid is one of the fundamental skills that we teach in the RAF Air Cadets, giving the staff and cadets the confidence and knowledge to step in when needed.

There are multiple levels of learning within the first aid curriculum, with a progressive syllabus starting at Essential First Aid all the way to the gold badge - Instructor First Aid.

By gaining these St Johns accredited certificates, cadets are able to offer their help to those who may need it. Recently, 1223's Cadet Ambler alongside his mother, who is the chair of our Civilian Committee administered first aid to both children and adults after witnessing a road traffic collision - highlighting the importance of learning these skills.

CADETS SAVE LIVES

Did you know that every Royal Air Force Air Cadet will undergo First Aid Training as part of their training. We start with the basics of CPR and through our progressive training syllabus cadets can gain life changing St Johns Accredited First Aid Certificates. Some cadets even go on to become First Aid Instructors.

This isn't just another badge for cadets. There are many examples of Cadets stepping up and using their skills in real life situations. FS Lily Walsh of 2077 (Pontyclun) Squadron was out celebrating with friends when they came across a man who had been set upon and severely beaten. Without hesitation she took control of the situation and administered life saving First Aid until Police and Ambulance arrived. For her actions and bravery she was acknowledged with a Public Service award by South Wales Police along with commendations from the Ambulance Service and RAF Air Cadets. 2 days in a classroom resulting in a life saved.

Cadets are taught skills that make a difference daily. Today we celebrate them.

🇬🇧 National Cadet Week 🇬🇧

Celebrating Our Volunteers!

As part of Cadet Week, we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and experience to support our cadets.

Here’s a little bit about WO Kiff.

How long have you volunteered with us?

I spent 5 years as a cadet and have now been a member of staff for 11 years, over two separate periods. Almost 9 of those years have been as a uniformed member of staff.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering?

My favourite thing is seeing the cadets develop in confidence, learn new skills and achieve things they perhaps never thought they could. Knowing that I’ve played even a small part in that is incredibly rewarding.

What’s your favourite cadet memory?

There are so many memories that it’s difficult to choose just one. As a cadet, one that will always stand out is having the opportunity to fly solo while undertaking a gliding scholarship. I could fly before I could drive!

As a member of staff, watching our road marching team complete the Nijmegen Marches has also been incredibly memorable. Seeing the determination, teamwork and commitment it takes to complete such a challenge was truly inspirational.

If you could take part in any cadet activity you haven’t tried yet, what would it be?

There’s not much left that I haven’t tried! I’m someone who likes to get involved and give everything a go, so if there’s an activity going on, I’ll usually want to be part of it.

There would be no Cadets without the Adult Volunteers that run it. Every member of staff in our Wing gives up their time to make sure that the RAF Air Cadets provide the best opportunities to the next generation. Balancing work, home and cadet life our hard working personnel continue to amaze us with their ability to pull off incredible events and activities for our Cadets.

Being a Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer is a commitment to inspiring todays youth to a brighter tomorrow. It is an incredibly rewarding experience watching a cadet benefit from the knowledge and skills passed on from a staff member. It’s what keeps us driving forwards as an organisation. So to the Civ Com, Padres, CI's,SNCOs & Officers that keep giving up their time. Thank you.
