We wrapped up our second Annual Continuous Training period last night with a performance in Cowbridge to support the ABF Wales, having completed a week at the The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Show.

At our final parade in the Main Ring of the showground, Band Sergeant Major WO2 Mark Ebdon accepted the presentation from the Society to recognise our contribution - particularly poignant for WO2 Ebdon as it was his final performance there before he retires from The Royal Welsh - but more on that later in the year..!

We’re now back in the UK having finished our Annual Camp period with a performance at the Taptoe Brugge last night in the stunning Burg Square.

During our final rehearsals for the event we presented our hosts with a framed copy of our Regimental March - Men of Harlech - as a token of our appreciation for welcoming us so warmly to the Taptoe and for all their assistance throughout (and in the many months prior).

Did you know?
The term "Taptoe" is derived from the traditional Dutch military signal “Doe den tap toe” (meaning "turn off the tap"). In military camps, this was a drum or trumpet call alerting soldiers to return to their barracks for the night, eventually evolving into musical performances.

Last night we performed at the Taptoe Lier to a warm and welcoming crowd at Sportpark Lier.

As well as performing our own marching display, we joined with fellow musicians from the Netherlands and Belgium for a massed bands finale.

We've now relocated to Bruges where tonight we will participate in the Taptoe Brugge.

Practice makes perfect!

This week we're in Belgium for a performance at the Taptoe Brugge on Saturday, but first we're in Mons at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe ('SHAPE') where this morning we're running through the music to support Canada Day events.

Activities this week form the first of our two weeks of Annual Camp this year. Completion of these, alongside other training days and also our Military Annual Training Tests, count towards qualification of a tax-free bonus payment on top of pay that all Army Reservists get in their roles.
